Two Signings that could help our defense

Eric Brown FS
30 years of age, has the experience and ability to contribute on this team. If schweigert is the answer at FS then the only way to really find out is to bring Eric Brown in and give schweigert a challenge, if he beats brown out then hes the answer if not then were certain to have the best FS on the roster playing that position, as of right now schweigert has no competition so he could suck horribly and it wouldnt matter because hes gonna start due to lack of competition. Either way since we have only one FS, we need another regardless, we got gibson, anderson, and cooper at SS, and just schweigert at FS, nash could make the team due to depth reasons but with schweigert having injury problems we should bring in brown even if stu is better.

Kevin Hardy OLB
Signing Jay Foreman gives us more options. His versitility helps us in the 3-4 and the 4-3 but since we have no certain OLBs, in a 3-4 we could use atleast one and trust that williams can get the job done. Kevin Hardy is looking at a veteran minimum and would most likely expect nothing more, he be a great addition to our linebacker core he puts up pretty good numbers in sacks and tackles.

If we sign these two players it not only adds depth but helps reduce those horrible rankings we've had on defense (30th in Pass Defense 22nd in Run Defense) 30th overall defense.

The addition of Hardy would help alot but i think we have enough guys already on the roster to find a back-up FS

I do like Kevin Hardy and think he would be a great addition at LB but to be honest that isn't going to happen!

thankyou for an informed post, and an actually feasible option to discuss...i'm just tired of these "lets trade c wood for lavar" threads...and yes, we could use maybe another olb, if not for camp competition

we dont have enough on the roster we only have one and thats schweigert!
cooper is no competition to anyone, I think he has one tackle at his position in 5 years, and he is a SS we only have one FS on the roster, I believe the requirement is 2 so we should sign Eric Brown if not to start for depth reasons cuz he'll come at a good price. Cooper is ST anyways. But yeah definently could use hardy.

i really like schweigert. he is young and the sky s the limit for this guy . as far as hardy, i would like that signing , they could have a good defence next year as is . if the offence stay s on the field more and puts up more point s . well that will make the D better without any new personel. so i think the west better watch out for the silver and black!!

I like schweigert too but I think he needs another year or two he wasnt good enough to go first round and since first rounders normally dont start there first year and sometimes there 2nd I dont see why schweigert would be good enough to start already and make a difference, I mean I think hes a great S and will be one but more down the road, asomugh is just now getting his first start and he was a first round pick, Gibson got his first start 2 years later, theres a list full of players who went first round and didnt start til down the road and they were good enough in college to be worthy of a first round pick, schweigert was not. Either way were gonna have to sign another FS we only have one and Eric Brown will cost about the same as any other guy and he'd be a whole lot better hes a guy full of potential and he could get the job done even if he backs up schweigert and rotates in or fills in if stuart goes down so regardless, I would like to see us sign him.
On another note, eddie george is without a job and were without a 3rd RB hes another one i'd like to see as a raider for the cheapest price imaginable, he'd make a nice backup, were without a true power running back like wheatley was and george would be the next best thing.

i think we have choices in the secondary aldo i dont mind gettin brown but its not a serious need, i like hardy but ill go with gildon due to the fact that he knows both schems good enough , he can be an olb in the 3-4 or a de in the 4-3 also hes a physical beast for his age and he still holds more than aduequate speed and he can come cheap.

I agree with you on Schweigert except for the injury problems part. I am not sure that he is ready to step up and start. He may prove us wrong but it would not hurt to have insurance back there. There is another thread that Lance Shuters may also be available after June 1, so he may be another option.

In mini-camp Renaldo Hill was being used as a FS and Nmandi has also played the position. It could be the team takes 6 CB's on the 53 man roster with these 2 covering the FS position.

As far as OLB goes, we seem to be pinning a lot on Sam Williams staying healthy this year. If he does we will be ok, but if not can Ryan Riddle step up?

Personally I would like to see another FB/RB brought in. Unless someone believes that either J.R. Niklos or DeJuan Green can step up, I see this as being a worry. If Jordan gets hurt at any stage, I know Crockett can fill in. I dont think Fargas has the size to be a factor in this offense. If Wheatley is fit and willing I would like to see him brought back, or someone like J.R. Redmond.

Good point, I like Stew, but I'm concerned about his experience and his tackling, unless we get a serious boost in pass rush this season he could flounder out there.

You're right. Our biggest need right now is a backup RB, and maybe a backup guard or tackle.

As far as D goes, unless an impact pass rusher becomes available, which isn't likely, I'm pretty comfortable with what we have right now. If do bring in another LB I would like to see us get Roman Phifer. He is a good coverage linebacker, something we currently don't have, and he is a guy who knows how to win and has worked with Ryan.
