Updated: March 24, 3:52 PM ET Veteran linebacker's new deal in $10M range -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By Len Pasquarelli ESPN.com The Houston Texans, having already lost one starting linebacker in free agency, blocked another departure by reaching an agreement with veteran Jay Foreman on a new five-year contract. The deal for Foreman, a four-year veteran who plays on the right inside in the Texans' 3-4 front, is worth about $10 million. Retaining him became a priority for Houston after outside linebacker Jeff Posey, the first player to switch teams during this year's free agent period, signed with the Buffalo Bills. Foreman, 27, had generated serious interest as an unrestricted free agent in less than a week and likely would have started visiting other teams had a new contract with the Texans not been completed this week. In fact, Texans officials had already begun exploring alternatives to Foreman in the event they weren't able to retain him. Acquired from the Bills in a trade last April for return man Charlie Rogers, Foreman had a breakout season. He started all 16 games and posted a career-best 137 tackles, proving to be a terrific defender against the inside run with his quickness. The son of former Minnesota Vikings tailback Chuck Foreman, he entered the league as the Bills' fifth-round pick in the 1999 draft. Foreman played almost exclusively on special teams his first two seasons in Buffalo, then became a starter in 2001 and had 95 tackles in 16 starts at the strongside spot. Prior to 2001, Foreman had started only three games. Now his streak of consecutive starts is 32. Len Pasquarelli is a senior writer for ESPN.com. |

That is an old article. Acquired from the Bills in a trade last April for return man Charlie Rogers, Foreman had a breakout season That article was from 2003. If you do a search on NFLPA site no contract is on file for Foreman which means he is not signed with anyone yet.
