Woodson: Trade and argument info.

May. 6 - With takers for Woodson's $10.5 million tender still scarce -- reports indicate no one is willing to give up more than a future fifth- or sixth-round draft pick -- the veteran cornerback participated in last week's minicamp as a starting cornerback. However, the Marin Independent Journal reports Woodson had an animated discussion with defensive coordinator Rob Ryan while coming off the practice field and speculates it involved the possibility the team wants Woodson to move to safety.

Looks like Woodson won't be trdaed for crap and sounds like he may not be thrilled about being moved to safety but it looks more and more like it coiuld happen. i beleive he could be a top tier safety in the nold of Rod Woodson and Ed Reed , but that is just an opinion.

Outrageous incredible humongous salary aside..... the guy would be a totally ******* safety. Dang dude gets a lotta PI calls cuz the grabbing holding way he plays CB don't jive with the "new" rules. But he could be all over the friggin' field as a safety. But ain't nobody gonna listen to you cuz its a "Wood$on" thread..... and these guys jes don't cotton to Wood$on thread around these here parts....

If we are paying him we can play him @ any position he is needed at. maybe this is what needs to happen, King Charles needs to come down off of his mountain.

The $10.5 million hit has been accounted for, there is nothing you can do about it now. Why get into the particulars of what franchised safeties make if there's nothing you can do about it? Quit thinking about the money. Yes it sucks, but it's a foregone conclusion.

The coaches have let it go and now are focused on where he will better benefit the team. I say they gauge how much pressure is being put on the quarterback; if it's even remotely like last year, I would actually put him at safety. You'll need all the overtop help you can get if the D Line can't get the job done.

If, however, Sapp and Big Ted and Burgess are getting in the backfield and disrupting the offense like they should, then I'd keep him at corner, especially if Aso is as good as Norv is letting on. Then it'd be a matter of time before opponent QBs pick their poison between the corners, thereby giving Wood the opportunity to make plays.

All that being said, there's no rule that says he has to stay in a particular position, as shown last year. Hell, I even came up with a brand new position one day when I was bored at work, and personally I think he'd FLOURISH there, but that's just my humble opinion.

In the end, he's the best player on D, use him every damn place you can.

My biggest concern is Woodson on the field. He was already upset with getting the tag so it would be harder for him to move to another team, now they are putting him at a position it seems he doesnt want to go to. So the question now becomes does he hold a major grudge and half ass it this year, or does he swallow his pride/ego/wallet and play hard this year so other teams will be more interested in him next year?

I agree ! C-Wood playing FS would give offenses fits. I think we limit his true ability by having him cover WR's on a constant basis. Charles needs to get more involved and allowed to cut loose, playing safety would allow this.

i think with us drafting two CB's, plus with the ones we already have, he will def move to Safety.

Actually i don't think he will have a definate position. One week he could be matched up with a top WR, then the following he could be playing FS. Either way i don't care, cause when hes out there teams are afraid to throw near him.

Woodson will be used like Ty Law was used two years ago. Sometimes he will line up as a CB, other times he will be a FS. Either way you have to look at it this way,
Is 10.5 million too much for Woodson? Yes
Is he an asshole? Yes
Is he our best defensive player? Yes
Are we a better team with him? Yes
