More Woodson Trade Scenarios from ***************
Woodson to the Redskins. The Redskins need a CB after losing Bailey and Fred Smoot. And we know Snyder will open up the wallet for Woodson, as he did for another Poston client, Lavar Arrington. The Redskins are about $8 to $9 million under the salary cap. Coach Joe Gibbs is also fond of veterans. He started Mark Brunell over Patrick Ramsey. Fleecing Dan Snyder is very possible, as evidenced by Denver's trade last season in which the Skins gave up Champ Bailey and a 2nd round pick which was converted into RB Tatum Bell, for Clinton Portis, who didn't look much better than Bell.
Trade: Redskins trade their 1st round pick (number 9 overall) to the Raiders for Woodson and either either Johnnie Morant or a 4th round pick. The Redskins worked a draft day trade with the Raiders in 2002, so the parties know each other well enough to do business again. Arizona Cardinals. Not sure if Dennis Green would tolerate Woodson's attitude, but Green did handle Randy Moss, Jeff George, Cris Carter, Chris Hovan, John Randle, and other interesting personalities in Minnesota. The Cardinals were $19.2 million under the salary cap on March 4th with little free agency activity since. Arizona needs a face on defense and this move would certainly help owner Bill Bidwell sell some tickets. Green and Davis get along well enough to work something out. Trade: Woodson to the Cardinals for Arizona's 2nd round pick (# 12) and 3rd round pick (# 11). This would look great to the Cardinals and actually work out well for the Raiders. The Raiders draft needs include linebackers and a guard. These positions are easily attained in rounds 2 and 3. The money saved by trading Woodson and not having to pay for a 1st rounder would open the Raiders wallet to be aggressive in post-draft free agency. The Raiders have had recent success drafting in the 2nd and 3rd rounds with finds such as Jake Grove, Sam Williams, Doug Jolley, Teyo Johnson, Jerry Porter, and Stuart Schweigert. St. Louis Rams. They have an extra 3rd, 4th, and 6th round pick to sweeten any deal and could use some toughness and tackling skills on defense. Their current starting CBs are Jerametrius Butler and Travis Fisher. Furthermore, the Rams have been horrible at landing quality 1st round picks the last few years. In 2000, they selected RB Trung Canidate. In 2001, it was DT Ryan Pickett and DT Damione Lewis. In 2002, they took MLB Robert Thomas. And in 2003, they grabbed DT Jimmy Kennedy. A known commodity must look very enticing. Trade: Woodson and WR Carlos Francis to the Rams for their 1st (17th overall) and extra 3rd (67th overall, 2nd of the round). The Raiders would have two of the top five picks in the 3rd round, a good round to address their LB and OG needs. With the 17th choice, the Raiders could still trade up a little for Shawn Merriman or stay put and land CBs Antrel Rolle or Carlos Rogers and save themselves millions in comparison to Woodson's salary. I personally would like to see the redskins scenario a top ten pick to land either shawne merriman or erasmus james or A good corner |

Very intriguing perspective, indeed. I like those scenarios, especially the Redskins'. I hope Al does make a good move to improve our D. But if Wood some how decides to restructure and we manage to pick up Hartwell, that would still be the best. That, of course, is assuming that Hartwell is still around.

As much as I want Woodson to go unless he signs a long term contract(will almost certainly not happen), I would rather have him this year instead of picks. If we cant get at least two very solid veteran players for him then we should keep him this year. I would gladly take any combination of Howard, Sharper, Surtain, or Law for Woodson. There will not be anyone left worth giving up Wood's coverage for when these players sign. We will not get anything in the draft worth giving up Woodson for unless you are looking at the future. I am much more concerned with the now as we could have a shot this year if we could move Woodson for 2 to 3 solid veteran players.

I like the Redskins trade scenario the best, but I don't want to give up Morant. Maybe another veteran player, but not Morant.

That being said In dont mind any of those scenarios but I like the Cardinals one the best. We get extra later rounds picks where we can get the type of positions we need and dont need the extra dolloars that a 1st rounder would require. I could actually see WTFC landing IN Foreskin land or with the Cards. Excellent thought process by the way with your scenarios good job!!
