Howard may be gone soon

From the Houma Courier
HOWARD MAY BE GONE SOON
Expect trade talks to heat up in the next few weeks involving Saints defensive end Darren Howard.

The word around the league is that the Dallas Cowboys are in the lead to land Howard, but expect a few more teams to jump in and attempt to acquire the talented defensive lineman in the next few weeks.

The Cowboys have not been shy about their interest in Howard, but they balked at dealing starting middle linebacker Dat Nguyen in a straight-up deal for Howard.

The Cowboys would consider dealing their second-round draft pick this season and a conditional pick in 2006 to acquire Howard.

The Oakland Raiders have also shown quite a bit of interest in Howard.

The Raiders reportedly have dangled veteran cornerback Phillip Buchanon in exchange for Howard.

The speedy former University of Miami (Fla.) All-American cornerback has flashed big-time skills as a cover man, but he has also been a very inconsistent performer.

This is not the first time the Saints have coveted Buchanon.

In the days leading up to the 2002 draft, former Saints general manager Randy Mueller told me that his wish list for the Saints first round selection was wide receiver Donte’ Stallworth, Buchanon and tight end Jeremy Shockey, in that order.

All three were available with the 13th overall selection and the Saints picked Stallworth.

When Buchanon slipped a few picks Mueller was hot on the phones trying to work a deal to acquire him.

The Saints were out-bid by Raiders who made a deal with the Falcons to move up to the 17th overall selection to acquire Buchanon’s services.

Expect a few more teams to throw their names in the Howard sweepstakes.

I also just heard on XTRA SPORTS AM 570 , Lee "Hacksaw" Hamilton reported the Saints are in serious talks with the Raiders for trade involving Phillip Buchanon for Darren Howard,,,,,,If we land Howard and get to keep C-wood,,,,,,I think we will have one of the best defenses in football all of the sudden!!!

Then Woody will sign a long term deal with us knowing what we got cookin here in Raider Nation!!!

Nice find
If we trading P-Buch straight up for Howard I think this would be the best off-season in years

I just heard somethign to that nature to!!! It looks like the Saints really want Phillup [ there gm loves him and thinks he could thrive when put in a new environment ] It would be Phillup and a draft pick for Howard. With the signing of CB Hill in the mist of happening...could a deal be close?

C-Wood will sign a long term deal July 15th. Al has a long term deal on the table and no team is willing to pay that kind of money that Al is now offering him. C-Wood and the Postons bothers have gained very little interest from teams and the only team out there willing to give C-Wood a long term deal is the Raiders. C-Wood is beging to realize this so its on the matter of time [ July 15 is the first day C-Wood can sign a long term deal with us ] So our cap will eventually get alot better.

^ No not of yet. That just a theory I have that I would not be surprised at happening [ makes sense ]. But that could very well happen.

I shouldnt have said it like it was a done deal [ bad wording by me...sry ]

I just dont see this happening unless someone can explain to me how the hell we get WTF Chuck and Howard within the same salary cap. Maybe WTF signs a long term deal but he cant do that until July and we have the draft before that where we need money to sign draft picks. Sorry folks this is a pipe dream
