Broncos, Browns close to a deal

The Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos are close to a trade that would strongly bolster the Browns backfield before the draft while giving Denver their second first-round DE in two days.

Sources have told FOXSports.com that the Browns and Broncos are in deep talks regarding a trade that would send last year's Broncos breakout back Reuben Droughns to Cleveland for defensive end Ebenezer Ekuban.
Ekuban, the former first-round pick, had surgery recently on his knee and shoulder and is not expected to be healthy until May. He is expected to visit the Broncos this week, but due to the health concerns, the two sides have discussed working out appropriate draft choice compensation for the 2006 draft if Ekuban cannot return to full strength in time for the season. However, if Ekuban's physical pans out well, the two sides may agree to a straight up player-for-player deal without any stipulation.

Droughns amassed a surprising 1,240 yards rushing last year, impressive numbers considering he didn't take over the primary ball carrier role until the second week of October. He also hauled in an impressive 32 passes for 241 yards and scored eight TDs — six on the ground. Droughns had six 100-yard rushing games — including games of 193, 176 and 166 yards — as Denver's coaching staff and offensive line churned out yet another 1,000-yard rusher.

Ekuban, a former first-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys, had his best sack total of his career in 2004 when he tabbed eight QB takedowns. His previous high was 6.5 during his sophomore season. His former defensive line coach in Cleveland, Andre Patterson, is now an assistant on the Broncos' staff.

Droughns joins a Browns backfield that was split between William Green and Lee Suggs last year. However, Droughns was more productive than those two combined last season. The move also allows Cleveland to focus on a position other than running back in the first round of this year's draft.

if ekuban becomes healthy then the Donks did, i doubt we will hear much about droughns anymore

The Donks are gambling on a bunch of misfits and slackers....The rat must be pulling the strings...funny how a group of so called professionals can be so blind.

Droughns was a product of their system. Nothing more. But that just shows how the Browns front office continue to produce losers. If Eb can get healthy then the donks get a huge break. There is a reason why no other teams were even marginally interested in Droughns (a 4th stringer). He sucks

The Broncos have already signed Courtney Brown and traded for Gerard Warren and now want another member of the Browns crap ass D-Line from 2004? Whatever. Their dumb moves are our gain.

Why are the Donkeys accumulating defensive lineman that allowed Jamal Lewis to run for 500 yards on them in one year? How about another Jamal Lewis type, just not as big, but maybe a little quicker?

They want to move Santonio Beard up, a good back we cut off our practice squad in '03. He's a big sturdy downhill runner with blocking skills of a fullback and decent passcatch hands.

Not a bad deal at all for the Broncos... I mean I hate them, but Droughns was not going to be a big part of their plans next year except for short yardage and goal line carries. Everyone knows T. Bell is Shannys next product boy.

I know CLEV missed out on C. Taylor who is going to stay in BAL as a backup for alot of money this year. BUT WHY settle for Droughns?? Go get T. Henry or ****... a 2nd round pick for Edge or Alexander???

well ollie u right but maybe droughns as a better attitude than the other guys and crennel is the coach and hes gonna try the same system they had in new england,regarding the donks shanarat is diggin is grave because none of those guys could do jack crap in cleveland and now hes doing a family reunion in denver and guess what they aint gonna do jack crap either,i hat the dunks as much as any member of the nation and im happy droughns is gone and i know shanarat is gonna regret this trade later in the season cause tatum bell is not gonna be is answer just as jake the snake will never take them to the promise land.

Why would one team go after another teams whole D-Line? Its not as if the Brownies D-Line was kicking ass last year.

The Browns D-line was the worst against the rush in 2004 to be exact. First round bust after first round bust.
