Still....would be nice to add one more solid, experienced (but not ancient) DE. Howard would be a nice bookend to Hamilton/Burgess. If it gets done, it gets done.

I think Howard would be a huge upgrade over the guys we currently have. Who knows maybe Al has one more trick in his bag. Sure would be nice to have a real pass rush.

If our DL is a monster next year that will make our Corners look all pro. Might be easier to dump off wood or p-buch after a season where our D is a top pass defense?

I still don't understand us trading for Darren Howard. We've got a nice group of defensive ends already. Brayton and Burgess starting with Hamilton, AGB, and Irons off the bench...what am I missing here? Granted, I know what Darren Howard brings to the team as far as pass rush and attitude, but it just seems like it would be an unnecessary waste of money....unless the Saints get dumb, and offer Howard straight up for Woodson.

Mule it depends on what you consider a good group. We do have quantity and possible potential but none of the guys we have has ever approached what Howard does.

Last year we didnt have a guy with 3 sacks. Burgress in part due to injuries also didnt have 3 sacks.

To have a guy you can pencil in for 10 sacks a year would be a large upgrade. Outside of the Buffalo game last year I think our whole team only had around 18 sacks in 15 games. This Kid had 11 in 13 games by himself. He has 41 in 69 games for his career. I think he could really make a dramatic difference for our defense. Hamilton isnt a Pass rusher. Brayton and Burgress could rotate at one spot opposite Howard at the other end.

Last year should probably just be erased. Last year, there were two players (Ted Washington & Bobby Hamilton) playing positions they were familiar with (not including db's). This year, if in fact we are using more 4-3 and we can pick up another couple of decent linebackers, the pass rush will improve. A lot of people are giving Sapp more **** then he deserves. He might as well have played inside linebacker. I understand the kind of player that Howard is, and what he brings, but I think you'll find our guys in their natural positions are more than adequate.

I hope you are right but I dont see our pass rushers in Howards class so why not add him if we have a chance? This almost sounds like the Moss argument again before the trade. People saying our WR are good enough and we dont need Moss. Why not strive for more than adequete pass rush? Why not strive for very good?

I agree. If we have a chance to get great at a certain position, let's do it. Especially since we're talking defense here.

The Kiss of Death....

"The Saints aren't likely to take on Woodson's current salary-cap charge of $10.53 million. Lowering that number would mean negotiating a long-term contract for Woodson and that would mean dealing with his agents, the always-difficult tandem of brothers Carl and Kevin Poston."
