Moss deal still alive !

Just read this over at pro footballtalk.com
MOSS TO RAIDERS STILL A POSSIBILITY
Late word from the West as of Tuesday night is that, even though the Oakland Raiders managed to cut a long-term deal with receiver Jerry Porter before he hit the free-agent market, the Raiders remain in hot pursuit of Vikings receiver Randy Moss.
Earlier in the day, we revealed that the Raiders were the secret team talking seriously with the Vikings about a trade for Moss.Ê Under the deal, the Vikings would have gotten the Raiders first-round pick, seventh-round pick, and linebacker Napoleon Harris. Ê
We learned on Monday afternoon that the deal hinged on the Raiders not re-signing Porter, and our source gave us the go-ahead to roll with the story after Porter inked his new contract. Ê
We're now hearing that, even though the Raiders have invested relatively big money in Porter, owner Al Davis still wants Moss.Ê Based on rumblings we've picked up from an industry source, the problem (for now) apparently is that Moss is balking at any restructuring of his deal, including even a so-called "simple" restructuring, which would convert the bulk of his 2005 salary into a guaranteed payment, allowing the short-term cap hit to be reduced by spreading most of his pay for the coming season over the life of the contract.
While some reasonably have concluded that Moss' refusal to play ball with the Raiders is enough to put the deal to rest, Davis is still trying to get the deal done, we're told, even if it means absorbing all of Moss' 2005 salary in the coming cap year.
"Davis will cut three other guys," said a league source, "if he wants [Moss] bad enough." Ê
Moss apparently balked at the restructuring because he prefers a trade to Atlanta or Baltimore.Ê Published reports have ruled out the Falcons, and we're hearing louder and louder that the Ravens jsut aren't interested. Ê
So stay tuned.Ê We've got a weird feeling that, the longer this story hangs around, the greater the chance that the Redskins will jump into the fray.

I don't like the part about cutting 3 orther players to get Moss. After giving up a 1st and 7th, plus napy or some other starting defensive player.

Its funny...

I stated on almost all of the 'Moss to Raiders' rumos threads on this site that the one guy Oakland would trade would be is Napoleon Harris in that deal...and NOW, all these sites are reporting it and Mortensen even mentioned it on ESPN.

Also, he wont re-structure his deal to come to Oak., and at this point, he isnt needed IMO on this team with Porter extending to stay in S&B.

Porter had his best season when he was #2. Moss Porter Curry sounds like pertty good 3some to me.

Yes we have much more glaring needs.
Yes Moss brings a ton of baggage
Yes we can probably do without Moss
Yes Moss's salary would hurt us

But man would it be fun to watch Kerry bombing the ball to Moss, JP, and Curry with a running back like Caddy or Ronnie Brown (assuming the #1 pick traded is in 2006). Who are you going to cover?
Obviously we still need a defense but that would be some exciting offensive football to watch. Can you imagine us going to play a defense like the Cheifs?

It makes no sense but it could happen. We always have one "wtf" move every off-season. Last year it was Sapp, maybe this year it will be Moss. If we get Moss though, forget about a RB, we won't need one. We would pass on every damn down....

I really doubt that but keep seeing it everywhere. He's a great football player and I'm sure he wants to compete. There are few WR (Owens?) that could make an argument to be #1 WR on a team with Moss. The coverage/respect for Moss would free Porter up to have a huge year. I see no reason why he'd be "really angry" about that.

That would be insane. It's not what I would want, but we already have an O-line that can protect the QB, and a QB with a strong arm. That would be tough for any secondary to stop...

We'd have to give away out #1 pick, so how would we get Ronnie Brown?
