Word making its way through the league is that Oakland has agreed to a long-term deal with corner Charles Woodson but won't announce it for a week or two. The reason? If they had agreed to a deal before he signed the one-year franchise tender, they would lose the franchise tag for the duration of the contract. So when the team openly talked about an offer it made to Woodson last month, the league sent out a memo warning officials to watch what they were saying publicly, with the idea the franchise tag would be lost if the players association pushed to make that happen. Either way, look for a new deal for Woodson in the coming weeks.

I sure hope he isn't given a big deal before this season! I wanna see if he can put up good numbers and re-establish himself as one of the best again before we make him the highest paid in the NFL! This one year tender is the best way to go this season- ie if he earns his money we can lock him up and both sides are happy whereas if he does crap we can ship him off before the draft...

All big $$$ contratcs are risks. But from the Raiders standpoint, they can pay him NOW or wait until the season is near over if he has an outstanding year. But if we wait, we run the risk having to pay him even MORE or losing him all together.

Well they said it may be a few weeks, so maybe they're going to wait a game or two before the cross the T's and dot the I's. I'm glad though that something seems to be in the works though.
