Wow who cares about Rickey side of this? What they are saying is that "oh no big deal, the NFL is just gonna change the rules for Rickey because he's a huge star. He'll help the TV deal". That is BS, first and one of the reason I'm still into Pro Ball is they don't force star players on you. A star this year could be a bum the next, there will be new stars they don't have to manufacture stars, the game is the star and great stories will emerge. This is the part I despise of the NBA... They just called the league they cover a complete fraud. That's the news!
Wait till they hear he's going to Oakland, then maybe then they won't even reinstate him.
The team that gives up two firsts for this guy is immediately moved to my personal "stupidest team in America" list. The team getting Rickey has a lot of leverage imo.
From the Article:
"On the surface, such a move would be surprising. Former NFL safety Mark Carrier and receiver Andre Rison were unable to land with new teams due to pending suspensions -- and those suspensions weren't lifted after the players missed the corresponding number of games because no one was willing to sign players who would launch their stay with a multi-game sit.
The primary difference, of course, is that Williams is a star player whose notoriety has grown exponentially since his abrupt departure from the game. With the NFL trying to squeeze every last penny out of the networks in the current round of broadcast rights negotiations, the blue suits would like nothing better than to give the TV folks a wink-nod, belch-fart guarantee that Williams will make it back onto boob tubes throughout the world come September 2005."
