Raiders Looking For More Rb Help?

according to profootballtalk

RAIDERS LOOKING FOR MORE RB HELP?

Despite the recent addition of veteran Amos Zereoue and the presence of Tyrone Wheatley and Justin Fargas, we're hearing that the Oakland Raiders are hoping to beef up their running back corps.

The leading candidates, we're told, are Travis Henry of the Bills and Rudi Johnson of the Bengals.

Henry is quickly becoming expendable as 2003 first-rounder Willis McGahee gets closer to the field. Johnson, a restricted free agent, is poised to hit the open market in 2005. With rookie first-rounder Chris Perry now on the roster, the Bengals might be tempted to get value for Johnson now, in lieu of nothing later.

If the Raiders add another back, our guess is that veteran Tyrone Wheatley might be the odd man out -- unless newcomer Zereoue fails to show that he'd able and willing to be a role player in the Oakland offense, which likely will be augmented with some special teams appearances, a task in which he initially made a name for himself with the Steelers.

Didn't the Raiders sign Amos Zereoue...so why would they need more help after his signing?

Cause, the new guy is just that, new to the Raiders and untried. TYW last good season was in 2000 and Fargas HAS ONE GOOD LEG. IMO, we need a power running, ya know like all the teams have, to take the pressure off Gannon. Again IMO, the 04 season can't be business as usual unless ya want to be 'On the clock' for the 05 draft right now.

I wouldn't mind them adding another bruiser to the committee.

I'm happy with what we got but if we can get a back like Charlie Garner that'll be even better

I would love to get Henry but there is no way Bills get rid of him and depend exclusively on McGahee's untested knee & lack of experience. Also,he would cost us a first rounder next year.

Hey we have the Rb's that we have.

No way we get Henry or Rudi this year. So forget about it.

Henry is good but he fumbles too much for me. I like the kid behind James at Indy - Dominic Rhodes. He had a torn ACL in 2002. Don't know his status but if he were available, he could be a starter on many teams.

Wheatley, Fargas, Redmond, Zereoue, Crockett. That's good enough. We can win with these guys if they play to their potential. The only reason that we are concerned about RB is becuase we are unsure about Fargas. If Fargas steps up (doesn't fumble and stays healthy) there would be no discussion about our RB status.

In any case, will probably draft a RB next year or pick someone up as a FA.

Garner? Why do you think we let him buy out his contract? We don't need that type of runner anymore. Garner became expendable because we're switching to a power running game (and Garner is by no means a power runner).

Henry would be nice but I doubt it will happen.

Wheatley the odd man out? Surely they jest. Wheatley is a bruiser, yes he's older and probably not an every down back, but he's big and can run. Good idea to add another big back no doubt, in case of injury, but I still like the idea of pounding Wheat up the middle and wearing the D down.

The extra player to round out the backfield was notrecalled from last year's scout squad. Santonio Beard from Alabama is now a Denver Bronc, a power back who can play FB(freshman season) or HB, and has decent catch skills and route ability for his size and speed.

He could block for Zack on the goalline sets, gone to shannarat's team now.

man in that case just wait till june-get eddie!!! will love that!!! put in the big boys!! wheatley/eddie then put in fargas and amos at same time fargas as hb-amos in slot wide receiver will cause defenses confusion covering amos, and not knowing if fargas si running
