If everything else is true then this would be what Al is looking for. I call BS also.

"Former Raider employee Mike Lombardi mentioned on his blog that Raiders coach Lane Kiffin agreed to an interview with the NFL Network, but had the interview canceled because owner Al Davis said it would be insubordination and grounds to fire him without pay." From Fanhouse.com : Report: Al Davis Made Lane Kiffin Cancel Interview With NFL Network - NFL FanHouse "n light of the recent public relations move by the Raiders this past weekend, head coach Lane Kiffin agreed to do an interview with the NFL Network. But when Adam Schefter showed up in Buffalo to tape the interview he was told that it had been cancelled."

Doing interviews isn't something that's out of the ordinary for a HC to do. So, would it be insubordination unless they tell him NOT to interview specifically? Why would doing an interview be insubordinate? Now, if he were to SAY something in that interview that would be considered insubordinate--that's a whole different ball game. Or am I missing something here?

It's possible that Kiffin is on some sort of probation which disallows him from speaking to the national media (local media is different). I don't think Al told anyone at the NFL Network he was going to fire Kiffin without pay if he did the interview, I'm guessing that was one of his surrogates. And, judging from Herrera's lack of professionalism, I don't expect any of Al's surrogates to use the most tactful language. At least Herrera seems more interested in scoring petty points than actually fulfilling some sort of clandestine plan to allow Kiffin to take the interview and be fired for insubordination.

it just proves what a conscious owner we have. he doesnt want to fire kiffin he wants to win. giving him warning just saved his job. that puts the firing rumors to rest. now on with the season.
