Cap Room
How are we going to get all these players with only 500k in cap room?

EXACTLY my point in other posts. Our cap room (actually about 100K) has absolutely screwed the ability to sign FA's (Corry Dillin?) and draft picks (a #2 included). I agree that room can be made, but WHO GOES to provide that relief? Few people on this board seem to be able to grasp the reality that one or more big money guys will have to restructure or be cut. I'm no "cap expert" and probably more likely described as "cap ignorant" but I can't see any other way to free up money. The two biggest salaries on the team have indicated no willingness to restructure their deals, so the logical conclusion is that they will be traded (best option) or cut to provide some cap relief. I hope I don't start another string of chaotic posts based on player loyalty but it seems reasonable that this team will have different key guys in the coming season.

Cap relief will be found a few different ways
After june 1st is when Kennedy`s reterement will become official-benefits cap the most then.
Contracts will be restructed- Gannon, Parella and Woodson will probably sign a more cap friendly deal- these can be done anytime (except Woodson) There are also a few others also that will have to restructure. I believe the raiders will have plenty of room after June 1st. I think it is short sighted to insist the raiders can`t sign who they want which would imply that they weren`t thinking ahead or had a plan. Daraft picks normally don`t get signed right away so waiting til after June first is no big deal. Think about it from the draft til June 1st is only about 6 weeks. |

Gannon & CWoodson are they keys. Even if some other players are cut, not enough room will be made for needed significant aquisitions...based on my aformentioned "cap ignorance". Cwoodson is represented by the Postons and will likely not budge..and Gannon has repeatedly stated that he WILL NOT take a pay cut under any circumstances. That leaves some tough decisions regarding personell. It is possible to see a lot of veterans get the axe (or retire?)because of this. I do agree though that the Raiders MUST have some kind of plan in mind and they would not be positioning themselves this way (poor!) just before the draft unless thay had a doable plan. Knowing Al, it will be interesting!
