Faneca to be a Raider

Newspaper back here in the uk has suggested that the raiders my go after Alan Faneca, just wondering what you guys thought about this. He is an awsome guard and a 5 times pro-bowler. We do have some cap space..

G isnt the biggest need but for the right price i wouldnt turn him down. But he wants to be paid, and think we could spend big money better else were.

In '98, I was hoping we would take him in the draft but we took Mo Collins instead

Considering he's going to get a deal similar to Hutchinson and Steinbach, and that we have many more glaring weaknesses than G, I think our money could be spent in much better ways.

Can he play tackle? If not, no thanks. I would rather take Max Starks from that line, have him play LT, move Simms to RT and we just upgraded both positions to have a pretty solid line.

Well, I don't know that we do have a bigger need than protecting JaMarcus, we have needs as important. Giving Faneca a similar deal to Steinback the '08 cap hit would be about $6 Million, leaving the Raiders with roughly $30 million to make other moves/resigns. I'm just saying I wouldn't rule it out, the way some fans talk, they would pay any price to replace Gallery! (BTW, Steinbach got a $49 million deal, but only $17 million is guaranteed)

Oh i agree completely, JR health is a major concern. But there may be other avenues that can provide him the safety he needs with out breaking the bank. But if getting him does cost an arm and a leg then bring it on baby. I love Faneca. A good OL

What paper was that? I'd like to read the article.

Also you use a very mis-leading thread title. "Faneca to be a Raider", is way way different to "the Raiders may go after Alan Faneca".

This is the rumor mill, we have to take all headlines and reports with a grain of salt... as far as the UK paper I would bet dollars to donuts they are just speculating. Raiders need OL help, he's the biggest name FA on the market. I doubt very many UK writers have insiders in Alameda. Do they know if he is a zone blocking fit? I don't, but they won't spend $50 million if he isn't.
