He ain't that good? You talk like all he has is the spin move. What about his rip move? What about when he hits the edge? If he doesn't get double teamed it's most likely always going to be a QB pressure or even a sack depending on how many steps back the QB takes. and If he's double teamed on every play what will that do for Sapp or Burgess? Open things up. Sapp wouldn't be able to get doubled team every down and who's going to chip Burgess also?

He's a liability against the run. I wouldn't pay near Top End money for a player as one dimensional as he is.
If Peppers were on the market, sure, he's the man. But Freeney is a one trick pony, it's a nice trick, but it's still just one trick. |

Well that one trick has racked him up 56.5 sacks in the last 5 years. It only put him behind Reggie White. Derrick Thomas, Richard Dent, Bruce Smith and Charles Haley in most sacks to begin their career. It's nothing too much. Oh and don't forget 27 career forced fumbles. |

while i think that freeny would be an fantastic pick up......(and i cant believe im saying it) but i dont think the raiders need him right now with the de's they got from the draft. i get the feeling that mosses will be a good-great player someday. now if we get him i wouldn't be upset at the very least. id probably be very happy....so while i dont think its gonna happen cuz from what i understand he was franchised so he is signed whether he likes it or not. and he'll be franchised again next year.

Freeney would be a starter on any NFL team despite being "one dimensional".

No matter what he's been franchised so no other team is gonna want him and the colts have to pay him the avarage of the ten top paid players at his position. he might not be signed a new contract but he has no other options just like briggs. he's a colt this year and next unless they sign him long term but its cheaper to just franchise him just like the raiders did to woodson. |

Exclusive Rights Franchise Tag - The player gets offered the average of the Top 5 players for their position in the league for the current year which it will apply for or a 20% increase of their previous year salary, whichever is greater. That player cannot negotiate with any other teams. Non Exclusive Franchise Tag - The player gets offered the average of the Top 5 players for their position in the league for the previous year or a 20% increase of their previous year salary, which ever is greater. That player can negotiate with other teams. The team then has the right to match the contract or receive 2 first round draft picks as compensation if they chose not to match. Freeney was given the ERFT. If he was given the NERFT, then a team that is playoff bound every year can offer their low first round picks for the upcoming year and the year after that. IMO that's not much value for a Top 10 player in the league. |

He is good, but one dimensional. A monster in the pass rush, but gets owned in the run. He is small for an End and has trouble with pulling guards in the run game. They smother him. I say we use the money on what we have now, which is a pretty formidable D.
