Payton appears to be Raiders' choice
The Raiders appear poised to hire Dallas Cowboys assistant head coach Sean Payton as their new coach. The appointment of Payton, 40, would end a search that began with the Dec. 31 release of Bill Callahan.
``He's the guy,'' said Cowboys offensive coordinator Maurice Carthon, who also interviewed for the job. ``That's what Al Davis wants. I think it's great. His agent and Al Davis were meeting today to work out the details.'' Payton was the only candidate called back for a second interview with Davis. The second round of talks took place Sunday at the team's Alameda headquarters. Payton initially was interviewed Jan. 12. Carthon interviewed Jan. 13, but was informed by the team that he was out of the running. Raiders spokesman Artie Gigantino would not confirm nor deny Payton's hiring. ``I have no comment,'' Gigantino said. ``That's not coming from anyone in this building. I can't speak for Maurice Carthon. We'll let you know when something happens http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercu...ts/7755316.htm
