Colleague says Cowboys aide Payton new Raiders coach
Colleague says Cowboys aide Payton new Raiders coach
The Raiders are on the verge of naming Dallas Cowboys assistant head coach/quarterbacks Sean Payton as their coach after a three-week search to find a successor to Bill Callahan, Cowboys offensive coordinator Maurice Carthon said Tuesday afternoon. "I'm out of the running," Carthon said when reached at his office at the Cowboys complex in Irving, Texas. "They're going to go in a different direction. Sean's going to get that job. He's out there now working out the details, and it could be announced later (Tuesday). Sean's their guy." Payton was unavailable for comment. A source close to Raiders managing general partner Al Davis said Davis told him Monday night that he was set to name a coach by the end of the week but didn't mention a name. Carthon worked with Payton on Cowboys coach Bill Parcells' staff this season and has been in contact with Payton the past week or so, Carthon said, as both vied for the Raiders' vacancy. http://www.grandforks.com/mld/cctime...rs/7754870.htm
