well it is well known that a lot of the "higher ups" advised Davis to keep Gruden around before he got traded......looks like Allen was in Gruden's corner the whole time.

Why do we continue to give Gruden and this Bruce Allen SOOOOOO much credit? FOR WHAT? Yes Allen wanted Jon to stay. This just in: Jon Gruden wanted out of Oakland! Al Davis and the Bay Area Press MADE GRUDEN! Same goes for Allen. Who the hell are these guys? The 32 owners in the NFL have every right TO DO THINGS THEIR WAY WITH THEIR TEAM (s). Like it or not! WE are just along for the ride.

Very true, however most owners have enough common sense to leave well enough alone! Unlike Al, which you;d have to agree lets his ego get the best of him!

And again, I ask, for the millionth time, what was Jon Gruden offered by Al Davis in leau of leaving the franchise? Still haven't gotten an answer to that.

The fact Allen left tells me there are more underlying issues and problems that exist within the organization than meets the eye

I heard that Al offered Jon a new contract of $3M, but things broke down when it came to total control of players, now and in the future. Hey Hitman your a fib guy and a computer wiz, surely YOU can trac down that info over there. Thats where i heard it at the time.

Yo Bleed! I happen to know some people that knew the Gruden family very well. What you said about Gru wanting to leave Oakland couldn't be further from the truth. Al Davis ran him out of town. I believe that Gru let things slip because he was obviously distracted by the College teams that were shopping him at the time. That is what infuriated Davis and prompted him to cut him loose. Now here we are, coachless again. Thanks alot Al!!

So we're going to say that Gruden wanted to leave because he didn't want to be a yes-man?

If your at a party and nobody seems to be talking to you, you think of an excuse to get going. Because you know that nobody's going to actually come up to you and tell you to leave.

Case and point, Davis' reluctance to give Gruden the control of the team that any head coach should have, especially a head coach that's done as much for this organization as he has, is a translation of Davis telling Gruden to beat it.

I read what R8RFox posted, and allthought fox and I are on the same page, I disagree with him as well. I think the reason is as simple as Gruden becoming more credited by the media at large for the Raiders' succesful turnaround than Al Davis.

A classic ego trip.
