Has Tedford's name really come up or did Dickey just throw a name out there?

He's right. What young coach would risk ruining his future coming here. Soon as you get here Al Davis tells you that this is your def. coor., this is your off. coor. and these are your position coaches and heres your playbook. The only coach who has had success here in the last 7 coaches was Jon Gruden who changed the playbook and brought in some coaches.

If a young coach can come to Oakland and establish any kind of winning track record, he's money. Because the rest of the league will be impressed that the guy not only took a bad team and turned it into a winner, but did so while dealing with Al Davis. And even if the coach doesn't win immediately, he'll still get a pass because of the Davis factor. Put it to you this way: Bill Callahan was fired after losing in Oakland and landed the head-coaching gig at Nebraska a few weeks later. Norv Turner was fired after losing in Oakland and landed a coordinator gig in San Francisco a few weeks later. If these guys were able to get second chances in a matter of weeks, certainly a young guy like Sarkisian, Tedford, etc. would as well. Frankly, IMO, a young coach like Sarkisian has little to lose - except, perhaps his sanity - by coming to Oakland. If he wins, he's golden. If he loses, most will give him a pass and blame Al Davis. |

raidcane is right, no coach will be successful when he is not running the team but rather baby setting the team. This is why established coachs are passing. Yes Gruden was tehlst coach allowed tohire is own staff with the exceptionof freddy and willie. Look what happened. Gruden became the face of the team, free agents wanted to come here, we won. Al got pissed becasue Gruden was getting the credit so he got jealous and Gruden was history.
