Fargas ready for the NFL
Fargas Ready for NFL
June 24, 2003
By Whitney Webster
RB Justin Fargas was known for his above-average quickness and his sharp change-of-direction abilities throughout his collegiate career. When the Oakland Raiders selected this 6'1", 219-pound 23-year-old Encino, Calif.,-native in the third round of the 2002 NFL Draft, he was thrilled and ready to bring his reputation up north.

Hopefully he'll be able to contribute something this year. His speed could really prove to be an asset on the field much like Nap Kaufman was when he was breaking big runs for us.

Word on the street is well use him in the kicking game. After using Alvis Whitted, Ronald Curry, and Marcus Knight, I have to think that this guy is better. The only reason we drafted him is cause Al loves his speed. James Jett, Nappy the first, Alvis Whitted. The only thing I don't like about this is that we do have good places for speed, like Nappy the first and Garner. Huggy Bear could do the same. I just don't like all these speed WRs that never really worked out for Big Al. Fargas in the returning game will be good, but I don't understand why we signed Jenkins and then have P-Buc practicing punt returns?

Competition is a good thing brotha! P.Buch being challenged by anyone for any particular job just makes the 2nd year pro more adept to a chllenge. The kid was hurt last year early and hasnt seen much action, I think they'l bring him on slowly and will be mostly used at CB and spot occasion as a punt returner. If Jenkins plays well during the pre-season and doesnt get injured, the punt return job and kick-off job is his. Fargas will be used in the Kick-off game, a couple of returns here and there...for the most part it will be Knight(if he makes the team) and Jenkins. Note also, Huggy brings another dimension to our backfield, something that im sure that Trestman and Cally will utilize.
