And he's out of the doghouse and actually playing. That makes all the difference in the world.
Learning From The Best

Fourth year WR Jerry Porter led the Raiders in receiving touchdowns in 2002.
Raiders wide receiver Jerry Porter must be the envy of every young wideout in the NFL. After all, the 24-year old gets to practice and work every day with two of the game's all-time best in Jerry Rice and Tim Brown.

I've been excited about Porter from day 1 when we drafted him for some reason I knew he would be a good wr and time will tell if he'll be a great wr, which I personally think he will be. He's got all the tools and he's learning from the best.
Does anyone remember what they thought when the Raiders drafted him?
I'm excited about the Raiders future and can't wait for the season to start. I also can't wait to see how Tui is going to do in preseason. It's all to the Good!
Here's to the future.
I thought he would be pretty good, he knew how an offense works cause he played Qb and knows secondary from his safety days. Yea, I was big on this guyOriginally posted by AUTUMNWIND81

I had a great feeling about him. Just thought it would take time for him to figure it out. The guy had all the tools you wanted. In fact when he was a rookie at Napa family day I made sure I got his autograph on my 2yr old sons football. I had been getting autographs on that thing years before he was born and continue to do so. I keep it up on a shelf in his room and one day hes going to appreciate it. But I had a feeling Porter would be a good one.
WHERE HE WENT, THEN I FOUND OUT.......The only thing i new he was doing during Gru's time, was following said person around with his favorite candy....Gummy BUTTS. Wonder who is doing that little task down in TB, Dudley i guess. I'll tell who was really down on Porter and that was Eric Allen. Ever watch that show on espn, Monday Morning QB? Allen was on there ragging on Porter every chance he got. Eric Allen is a Eagle, never a Raider. Make no mistake about that one. He said that if the Raiders & Egales were in the SB he Allen would be for the Eagles. PUTZ!![]()

I was excited about him as an athlete, concerned about his lack of experience. The Raiders passed over a couple of more-highly-touted guys to take him, and that had me wondering.Originally posted by AUTUMNWIND81

But a good friend of mine is a West Va. alum and super-fan, and he said the guy was a monster stud. That was good enough for me.
I just hated the way Gru used him. He would always say how he would love to give the guy the ball. Training camp 2 years ago Gru was so excited, and Porter doesn't get any chances. Get good 'ol Bill at the reins and he lets the youngin fly.
Fly to Honolulu, Jerry, Fly fly away
My feelings on Gruden's handling of young WRs are probably fairly well-known on this board and the Merc one.Originally posted by liebo84

Example '03: Marquise Walker. Welcome to Arizona, kid.

The stupid thing is the Bucs need a proven WR. Mcardell is old and I hate Keyshawn. The jury's still out on Jurevicious
