In fact, let me go ahead and declare the contest over: This is the worst Raider team of the post-2002-Super-Bowl era. When the 2006 team of Art Shell lost its season opener at home to San Diego, 27-0, at least the Chargers were a really good team. When the 4-12 team of 2003 lost a home game to Green Bay, 41-7, you could write it off to Brett Favre’s inspirational night in the wake of his father’s death.
But this? The Falcons? A year ago, they had the same 4-12 record as the Raiders. And this year, Atlanta has a new coach (Mike Smith) and new quarterback (young Ryan) and is allegedly just finding its way. Atlanta is not a team that is supposed to show up in Oakland and roll across the turf virtually unopposed.
