Raiders | Davis involved in team's gameplans?

Raiders | Davis involved in team's gameplans?
Tue, 1 Jul 2008 07:44:03 -0700
Jason Jones, of the Sacramento Bee, reports Oakland Raiders managing general partner Al Davis is considered by some people to be very involved with the team's gameplans. Former Raiders DL Warren Sapp recently commented on how the phone rings quite frequently on the team's sidelines during games, while former team executive Mike Lombardi added those phone calls are coming from one person only. "Having worked in that 'black hole' for eight years, I know exactly what Warren is talking about," Lombardi said. "And those calls to the sideline are from one man and one man only. At times I have been the reluctant messenger on a few of them myself. They are never pleasant."

I really dont find it so hard to believe. Sapp is the one I believe, if he is saying that stuff, it must be true and I dont see why any players want that or want to be on that team.

I don't know why so many fans find this hard to believe, when Davis has always been more hands on than any other owner in the league, these rumors have been around since the mid 60's people...

He said to me many times through the years that owners are often the problem with their franchises, that too many of them think they can run things when they cannot, and the teams that succeed are the ones where the owner hires the best people he can and turns the game over to them."

I don't find it hard to believe. I find it a reality. So what, IMHO. Next subject.

telling us what we already know. As much as scratch my head with Al Davis decisions, I believe he will be a key figure in the rookie pay scale discussions and needs to stay the GM.

So what?? I'm sorry but when you're the owner of the team and you hire a HC then you let that person do their job. If he wants to be calling the sidelines then why not just be the HC and stop hiring Head Coaches that will eventually get fired after 1 or 2 seasons.
Anyone that doesn't have a problem with Al calling the field during a game must really love the old man. At least if the Raiders were winning I would be ok i guess it helps, he's helping the team out. Guess what, the team keeps getting bashed every time a player leaves because the team has sucked so bad these past 5 years. I know Al has done some great things but that's in the past, WAY WAY in the past.

He hires proven coaches like Bill Parcells and the team wins. The Cowboys are not getting laughed at every year since the 2002 season. The Raiders have accumulated a 19-61 record these past 5 seasons?? I wonder why the Cowboys owner doesn't get HEAT like the man in the jumpsuit.

Winning solves everything.
If we were winning or making the playoffs it wouldnt be such a big deal.
I would include Daniel Snyder of the Redskins in this group also.
Winning cures everything.
