I know Mr. Davis wants to win badly, probably even more than we fans do, if that's possible... but I have to say that I agree with the article, and the whole signing of problem athletes smacks of desperation................. and desperation is unbecoming of the Raiders, even as bad as they have been.

ouch! rough article.....but.....hate to say it...he's completely right. These guys need to get a fukcing clue!
it is what it is though....a business...and you don't make money by signing "great character guys" with no talent. Bottom line. These guys are good players, teams need good players, bad character or not. It's a damn catch 22.

He isn't a bad character guy, but he does seem to lack intelligence and sense. I don't think we look desperate for signing him, we signed the best receiver available.

Exactly what we did. Did we overpay? Maybe we shall see, if Javon catches 75 or 80 balls for 11,000 yrds and 10+ TDs then I would say no. If he catches 30 for 300 yards and 4-5 TDs then will probably did. Time Will Tell...Sorry

I know that Al Davis is notorious for spending extreme amounts of money on players in an attempt to pull our team out of our current 5 year slump, but who can blame him? He built this franchise and knows the feeling of winning 3 Super Bowls (A feeling I pray for everyday to experience just once!). During the Raiders "Glory Days" he was surrounded by some of the greatest players to ever play football...Fred Biletnikoff, George Blanda, Jim Otto, Marcus Allen...just to name a few. He has coached with one of the best and most respected head coaches of all time , John Madden. Al Davis didn't just live through Raider history; he LIVED it. He knows what it is like for teams to really fear the Autumn Wind and to have players who are passionate about the game. Al Davis doesn't want the Raiders to become a team of the past, whose fans can only talk about their history instead of the future. I understand his desire and drive to bring us back to the top. It's about that "Commitment to Excellence," no matter what it takes.
