Raiders | Kiffin working with Russell

Tim Kawakami, of The Mercury News, reports Oakland Raiders QB JaMarcus Russell has been working with head coach Lane Kiffin during the team's offseason workouts. Kiffin's goal is to get Russell to a 65 percent completion rate this year. Last year, Russell had a 54.5 percent completion rate.

Depending on our WR's, Russell should have that % easy. I know Z.Miller, D.McFadden, M.Bush, J.Fargas should help out tremendously.
Griffith & O'Neil will contribute a little bit.
A couple of our WR's really need to step up to the plate and have good seasons. I think overall, JaMarcus should have that easy though.

That would make sense since Kiffin is the coach. Trying to get him to make smart decisions and not rely on his arm and make him consistent. Good stuff.

We will probably be running the ball 55% of the time, maybe more, so that should take some heat off him. We will probably also see a lot of quick passes, 3 step drops, rollouts and bootlegs, high percentage passes to build his confidence.

The only thing is, we can't keep dinking and dunking are way down the field. I trust kiffin in mixing up the play calls.
Hopefully Russell performs this year and keeps Kiffin around.

Fargas runs horrible routes and doesn't have the best hands. He will hurt the completion percentage more than help it.

Exactly, this type of play calling will also take pressure of Harris and the oline, allowing them to gain confidence and get better s well.

However, Justin blocks pretty well. That is, he puts his body on the line. So in that respect he'll help...
I'm just throwing it out there.

We will be seeing lots of quick passes with the occasional deep ball then.

65% is a really good completion percentage... we'll see.

65 percentage for JR puts Oakland if not in the playoffs than very close to it.
