Camp fodder, no way an 11 year vet will win the spot..or he has to be an HOF kind of player..

That is not a valid reason why he won't win a job or a spot on the roster.

You want to say he may not perform well in our scheme...who knows?
You want to say guys like Richardson, Edwards are better...who knows?

But to say that he wont gain a roster spot on the reason that he is a 11-year vet is just nuts.

So, he's done? Do you know that? So, because he is a 11-year pro, he should be gone? Then tell me...who and why will take his spot?

We are going to keep 4 DEs.

Name 'em?

All things being equal, if Spires is healthy and plays the way he has played the last 3-4-years, there is no way in hell a guy like Scott will beat him out. Scott will have to have an immense pre-season and show he can play DE at the pro level with some great performances for him to stick around on the ACTIVE roster.

.

I agree...
I also heard from various people (Jim Plunkett being one) that this may be the first year or in a long time, that we have a high level of competition, and alot of players will be fighting for a job

Spires has been a very solid DE and was only cut for salary cap reasons. He can rush he can tackle that alone will get him a roster spot.

My penny:

It appears that he will be a good addition to the defense. Whether he starts or some else does will be determined later.

Nuff.
