Over the past five years, Oakland has used only five of 51 draft choices on defensive linemen. Of the five, just one was a defensive tackle (Anttaj Hawthorne), and a meager two (Brayton and Richardson) are still on the roster.

Until Davis and the Raiders realize that NFL games are won up front on both sides of the ball, they'll continue to struggle to win games.
AMEN! I've been screaming since last year that we needed DTs. Finally the press are jumping on this as well.

Only 1 out of 51 draft picks was a defensive tackle. Sigh...

A first-round choice of the Raiders in 2003, the 280-pounder has spent five unproductive seasons in the NFL, where he's seen time -- and failed -- at both defensive end and outside linebacker. Apparently Davis believes Brayton can make it at DT; the 78-year-old spent none of his team's 11 draft picks on a defense tackle during the offseason
Right on the money
T Brayton would probably not make another team if cut- yet we keep him on ours hoping one day he turns into something

i do like his heart, effort, and attitude however. i think there's a place on a team for guys like this. maybe motivate the more talented, but less committed guys?

I actually thought Tyler played a better game against Houston. Our biggest problem is the overpursuit of our LBs. If our DT cannot hold their gap, then the backside LB has to stay put for the cutback and we keep getting gashed on this because the backside LB is too far across the field and the safety is right there with them. When slow ass Ron Dayne can cutback run and gain a ton of yards, it is because we overpersue and get out of position. We end up chasing the RB down from behind. Its a great thing our LBs have a great nose for the ball and run downhill to a play, but if they dont honor their containment roles, we get screwed. It is so obvious on tape that teams now game plan their misdirection plays to catch us on it.

100% right. Houston ran a little fake handoff to the right, pitch to the left play and there was NOBODY over there to contain the RB. Sometimes speed on defense is a bad thing when the fast players are getting to the wrong places fast.

Maybe if we could get some help up front to at least tackle somebody, or at least slow up the RB's that are shredding the defense, this would happen much less
