This sentence put the whole thing in a nutshell:
Coach Lane Kiffin brought an abrupt end to his personal reclamation project by waiving Williams, his longtime understudy ... . When you really think about it, MW's résumé included a stellar freshman season at USC, a team that was stacked with future NFL'ers. Otherwise, nothing. MW's hype was the product of the guys that surrounded him at USC. The kid was a number 10 overall pick after sitting out a season, essentially still a junior in college - all based on this one season as a Trojan. From the beginning, Mike was "Lane's boy", and I don't think that was loss by anyone. I've got a feeling Lane sensed some of that, probably demanded more out of MW than anyone else, and now dumped him like dat strictly as a message. I think Lane is more in control of the goings and comings of this team than most are giving him credit for. And I think that would be good.

The thing that is frustrating is knowing he asked Kiffin to get him involved and this is what he pulls very disappointing being and SC fan but oh well may the next man perform and get us some wins.

yeah, i was really hoping williams was going to be a very good nfl receiver. that monster year he had at usc where he could catch everything made him look like he was going to fit in with what receivers were becoming at that time: behemouths who could use their size to pull about any ball out of the air. oh well, i was caught up in the mike williams hype while he was at usc, but after 2 teams in the nfl its not looking like those expectations will be met.
