McCown 'hurting' on Monday

Quote:
Josh McCown (foot) reportedly "appeared to be hurting" at the Raiders' facility Monday, but coach Lane Kiffin isn't ready to name his Week 4 starter.
The Oakland Tribune thinks Daunte Culpepper will start at Miami, but we've thought that before and been wrong. That said, the Raiders kept Andrew Walter on the roster this week because they feel McCown may not be ready. Sep. 24 - 8:46 pm et

I heard a radio show that Artie Giga-whats-his-name was on and he said that Josh was using crutches all day today.

I don't think the coach will be to popular getting a hurt player more hurt. If JM is really hurting that bad, he will not play. To play him sends the wrong message. A little hurt, play tough, okay, it is football. Alot hurt, show compassion, show you care, buy good will from the rest of the team, i.e., he wants us to play tough, but he also cares for us. In my opinion JM may have seen his last start as a Raider. I will say this, that guy has guts...

My hat's off to McCown who has played with tremendous heart and determination. He isn't the most skilled QB but he's got mucho heart! That being said, I don't see him playing another game in Oakland unless C-Pep gets hurt or stinks it up.. Lets hope that doesn't happen.

That's not exactly true. While they may get compared because of their appearances, their styles aren't much similar at all.
Culpepper, at least until he blew out his knee, was much more of a scrambler/runner than Russell ever will be. I expect Russell primarily will be a pocket passer. You may see him on roll-outs and the like, but I would count on him being much of a runner. His playing style is much more like Ben Roethlisberger or even Carson Palmer, before he tore up his knee. Maybe even - knock on wood - Elway. Not that he's likely to be as good as Elway, but I expect they'll be somewhat similar in playing styles, i.e. big-armed, big guy who can run a bit, but isn't a runner.

And if the Raiders get Daunte Culpepper Part II out of JaMarcus Russell, I'll consider him a disappointment.
