It does seem silly to give a guy guaranteed money that isn't guaranteed, but then again it seems even more silly to give a guy who never took a snap in the league $30+ mil guaranteed, but such is the state of pro foot ball today. I do think you should have to make the team to get the $$$, I understand wanting to get the money if you get hurt in the line of duty, but even if you get cut?

Here is one idea that I don't think has been mentioned. I think it's possible that the Raider were in no hurry to get Russell into camp once we signed Culpepper. And it's not just because we thought Culpepper would be our starting QB. It's because we needed time to evaluate the three QB's to see which two we wanted to keep. And once we bring Russell into the fold one of those QB's will have to go or get their snaps reduced tremendously. I'm thinking that a deal will get done this week. This will give each QB one last chance to prove themselves. Russell will then have a 1 1/2 weeks to learn the system and then he will see his playing time in the 4th preseason game when you don't want your starters to get hurt.

ROFL!!!! You think a Rookie QB, who came out as a Junior can pick up this offense in a week and a half??? C-Peps a PRO BOWL QB!!! And he's having problems gettin the offense down. I think you VASTLY overrate Russells IQ, and vastly UNDERRate how hard it is to QB in the NFL. |

but he doesnt have to learn the O from scratch either, since hes on it from day one. if he signs, whenever he does, he is gonna be #3. looks like Culpepper is gonna start the season now...and if he plays strong and we keep winning, Russell/Walter is gonna play the reliever and fight it out in next years camp. its not that bad afterall. |

Thanks 40
Could be Al's way of some free good publicity, once JRuss didn't go for the first contract Al's playin it out. The press is starting to look at the Raiders with a different edge. Possitive (not used to that) instead of being kicked around. I mean the chances of him starting anyways was slim, even starting mid-season was slim. He will sign, and soon. Just my lil' consperacy theory eh!
