Explain All That To William Green And The Browns...
Quote:
200 LB RBs that run over a 4.5 don't hit holes very fast and lack quickness as well as speed typically. However, I do think Lynch is more of a 4.45 to 4.48 guy, but definately not under 4.4 guy like some people were claiming....that's all I want to point out. Just because he went to Cal doesn't mean he's able to run a 4.2

It Goes Both Ways...

It is not just about 40 time and it is not just about college stats either. Everything is weighed in. However, you don't find too many HOF type RBs that can't bust a 4.4

Yeah but how can you distinguish whether a player is fast or quick. If he has elusiveness or just good foot speed. There is track speed. Football speed.
Quickness. Elusiveness. Coordination. There are individual drills set-up to measure a player's abilitites in these areas. 40 being one of them. Short Shuttle. 3 Cone drill etc. etc. Production on the field is not the only way to judge a player. A good example would be Peter Warrick out of FSU. Very productive player in college. Slow 40 time with a 4.6 forty, yet his quickness and coordination allowed him to perform on the collegiate level. Well when he got to the NFL his quickness offered him less of an advantage because of the fact that the overall quickness level of the NFL is superior to the NCAA. He did not have the deep speed needed to create separation from coverage. Thus his career never fullfilled the promise of his collegiate one.
