^^^

and you think Brayton > STU

I know brayton was pulled out on passing downs but you would think he at least would get one sack on play action or something.

1. Tatum (my screen name 32assassin)

4-5. in no order
Turner (game changer when healthy)
Van Mcelroy
Eddie Anderson
Atkinson
Mike Davis

honorable mention
1-2 great years played for the Raiders does not make you the best in Raider History!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rod Woodson
Ronnie Lott

Worst in no order
Ray Buchanan
Marques Pope
^^^^( NEVER GOING TO FORGET CHAMP GAME VS RAVENS DOUCH BAG GIVING UP THE TE. Sharpe gets a 15 yard catch in front of him and he puts his ands up "Oh he caught a ball in front of me" I'm goint to let him run 80 yds for a TD)
Ron Fellows
Anthony Dorsett
Patrick Bates - 1st round safety like gibson but at least gibson was trying

Dishonrable mention
Derek Gibson - bad but their has been worst
(Gonsalez and other TEs ripping us was down with him but not never earned his 1st round mark)

STU is not an all-pro but he has had some moments. one of my fav play was vs. the colts when one of their WR caught a sure TD and STU layed a lick on him and the ball popped right out before the WR came down.
anyone that thinks hes bad obviously forgot or never saw this other players play S.

Stu, as much as he can make plays and has some speed and skill, also lets too many sure tackles and receptions through that he should be stopping.

Stu isnt top 5 bad, but he is lower down than he should be.

How many years was Turner here again? Anderson and Davis were decent Safeties. Mcelroy also was limited in quality years as well. I'd still stick with Woodson and Lott, when they were here they were easily all-pro caliber, just like Turner.

McElroy did go to two Pro Bowls. And he was a Pro Bowl player on a Championship defense. One of the really underrated Raiders of all time in my opinion. And besides being a fearless tackler, he also had some really good INT years:

1983- 8 picks
1984- 4 picks
1986- 7 picks
1987- 4 picks, 1 TD
1988- 3 picks

For my money he contributed more to the Raiders than Lott, even though Lott clearly had the better career. Woodson gets extra credit for being probably the missing piece to the Raider D when he came aboard IMO...

very true turner was here 97-99, and I he sat out 6 games in 98 and 11 on 99. I just gave him credit for his great 97 year because like Kirk Morrison, grew up a raider fan. their was a story or rummor about him when he was drafted by the browns, he said something in the lines; remember me when I'm a FA to the raiders.

woodson and lott played great for us but will ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED as a 9er and steeler. and that disqualifies them from Raider history.

pope played very little for us but was as much a factor in us loosing the champ game as that buckt of lard falling on gannon. so he falls on the list.

if the tread said 5 best and worst safeties to play for the raiders, then the list changes.

It's true that Burgess Ownes should get an honerable mention. Even though he was only with us for three seasons, I am constantly amazed at how hard a hitter he was whenever I watch my tapes of games with him. In the 1982 playoff game against the Jets (his last game) he blasted Freeman McNeal so hard the ball poped out and we recoverd the fumble that gave us a chance to win that game in the final minutes...
Vann McElroy was also a fearsome hitter, who gave 110% on every play.

Worst- You know 96 yard Pope....or Elvis "Toast" Patterson.

Best- Turner because the guy had stomach cancer and played and told only a couple of teammates he was sick.
