Do fans really think a winning team is built overnight?

With all of the Raiders success in the early 2000's we all knew that there would be a mass exodus of all pro talent due to age. Yet we all bash Al Davis for not replacing that talent overnight. I believe Al Davis trys to win and has done a good job building our defense to where it ranked 3rd in the NFL. Though Al has missed on a couple of good young coaches, he has realized his mistakes and is currently trying to amend them. No team would be able to suffer the player losses we have and been able to compete. To suggest that Davis gets a pass is laughable at best. The Raider Nation has never suffered like we have for the last four years, thus we are not used to being the doormat of the league. Why? Because Al Davis in all his years of ownership NEVER let us fall this far and now when at 77, He falters and all of us jump all over him? Thats not what being a Raider is all about. Being a Raider is about Pride and Poise and committing to excelence.l Love the Oakland Raiders because of what Al Davis has made them, the renagades of pro football. When the Raiders yet again reach the NFL's elite I will be there basking in the silver n' black afterglow.

No, not everyone thinks that! But everyone thinks steady improvements should be made and thus far none have been made. We're getting worse every year with no light at the end of the tunnel. Al Davis does deserve criticism because his philisophy is now outdated.

God damn right, just wait until the offense gets built up over the next 2 years and the Raiders will stomp the AFC again.

It could be with the right coaching and all the players overachieve.

Just this year alone what do you think of the Jets, Saints, and Titans. Let alone all the other teams that were crap last year and showed improvement.

When the team has no competent coaches, no direction, bad management, a lack of communication, and is steadily getting worse...I think criticism is warranted and necessary.

Dissent is a sign of independent thought and is a tool to ensure our team realizes it must evolve, but not necessarily scrap the entire thing.

Good Post.

With our Defense continuing to get better, I think we'll have just a little bit more room for error. But this thread is also correct. It's a MUST that the right offseason moves are made.

Oakland should have a BIG offseason. I think we'll be alright!!!

Sometimes, a Super Bowl contender is built from a doormat team overnight (Just ask the New Orleans Saints)

But usually, it takes a few years for a team to transform from a doormat to a legit Super Bowl contender.

Not replacing overnight? It's been 3-4 years dude. No I don't expect the team to be able to turn itself around over one night, however this team has had over a 1000 nights to do it.
