after hearing and reading so many comments on how NObody wants to come here and coach the raiders....
well is seems to me if anyone were a "good" coach, would'nt they want the challenge of trying to take a team from dismay to glory?? or do most coaches want to go to a team that is all ready set up for them to be in the play-offs?? i just do not buy into all this crap that NO one wants to coach the Raiders. JMHO (just MY humble opinion)

The media seems to talk down the Raiders so much and some coaching prospects seems to care what the media thinks. I don't want a coach who doesn't want to be here.
There is only 32 of this jobs in the world. Not taking the opportunty is cowardly. |

I agree, I doubt that the state of the team has a large bearing on the job. IMO, the main hurdle that the Raiders must overcome to get a "quality" coach is $$$. When we begin to pay our coaches salaries more in line with the standard of today's NFL coaches, the better candidates will give the Raiders a more serious look.

it was espn news, but they said that no one really wants the raiders job, cause it is just too much in the dumps.. too much work, and it will be hard to find a canidate. Al Davis or not... if Al gave me the chance i would jump on it!

I would like to think that a lot of coaches would welcome the challenge. I also believe, it's not a good job because they know that they won't be able to bring in their own guys and run the team the way they want.

ESPN is clueless. If anything the current state of the team should make it more appealing to a coach, not less. The media bash Al Davis and the Raiders so much that if a new coach comes in and goes 2-14 it is Al Davis's fault, not the coach's. Besides, it isn't like the whole team is in disarray. There are maybe 5 players that really need to be shown the door (Moss, Porter, B Simms, A Brooks to start), the defense is set, and we have draft picks galore this year. What's not to like. I would do the job for free if they gave me food and a place to live.

Somebody will want the challenge. They will want the oppurtunity to coach in the NFL. I believe it will happen quicker than last season and we will get a better coach than last season as well.

I agree! Why wouldn't any coach want to come here. I believe that most coaches would like the opportunity to coach the Raiders. The myth that most don't has definitely been created by the media and other ex-coaches of the Raiders. Thats what seperates a good coach from a great coach when it comes to the challenge of turning a team around. Look at Gruden, he knew ahead of time the Bucs were in a state of making a run, especially with that defense. He was smart enough to take advantage of that situation. Any respectable coach would take the job if given the opportunity.

If i was a coach .. i would take this job. its a challenge.. it going to show the whole NFL that your a good coach.. it dosent take much for a coach to take the Cowboys or the Colts or the Pats job.. and win.. but if a coach that wins in a place that people dont expect like the Sains.. with Sean Peyton.. then you show that your a great coach.. then the experts hop on your bandwagon.. and say i knew he was a great coach all along..

Peter King was on NBC's pregame show last night and he said (paraphrasing) "Everyone keeps saying this is a bad job, but it's not. There's a young top 5 defense and a first pick to get JaMarcus Russell. That's a good situation for a new coahc to take over..."
I agree with him.
