Just going off what I have seen posted here I believe it was 7 or 7.5 million in savings if he is cut. Dont know how accurate that is but thats the number I remember seeing.
Before people go crazy, I know its highly unlikely, but as of now I believe we are 8.5 million over the cap. Palmer is due to make 13 million. I am just looking for what the cap hit would be of Palmer were to be released if he refused to restructure to make room.

There's also a cap hit though. I'd much rather trade him for a 2nd round pick and mabye even more. We'd save money and get a good pick out of it.
If we release Palmer it will save us any wins we might of had.
I only bring it up, bc if the savings is 7.5 and cutting Kelly would be around 6.5 that alone puts us pretty far under, and I am for Pryor as the future, but even if you arent, it would allow us to resign a couple more guys, or bring in younger talent.
I'm all for starting the youth movement but I still feel that there is trade value for Palmer. Whatever it takes to get us under the cap, I am in.
I can't see any team giving up anything more than a 3rd rounder at most for Palmer

I'm for getting the cap in shape, and for looking to the future. But I see real value in our not becoming epically putrid while we do it. I'd keep Carson and his contract for next year, and try to get the defense solidified a bit. Either that or dump him and go for a proven vet. Maybe Alex Smith. If we trot Pryor out there, we might make the winless bucs team from years ago and the bed and breakfast look like a powerhouses. Then nobody will come here.
Palmers salary and cap hit are different numbers. His salary is $13 mil while his cap hit is $17 mil. I think that means we save $4 mil and I am unsure of the dead money ramifications.
It would save this franchise another wasted year.
It's time we got on with the get on! They're really is no reason for him to be on this team anymore. If he was 25 yrs old then that's a different story, if we were serious contenders them cool but it's just time.
^^^^^ this is why a "redo" not a restructure of his contract is a must!... Need to sit him in the office and say "we love you Carson, but that contract you signed when Hue was here was never a fair contract to the team, going forward we must redo your contract to be reciprocal to the results seen on the field... We crunched some numbers and have come up with what we feel is a fair offer that we can all live with: 4 yr 25 mil, 4 mill signing bonus, contract is 2.5, 6.5, 8, 8 million". If he doesn't accept, or come up with something similar we trade him for whatever we can get!
He's going to make 17-18mil this year if he stays with the Raiders.
10/18/2011: Signed a four-year, $43 million contract. The deal contains $7.5 million guaranteed, including all of Palmer's first-year salary and $5 million of Palmer's second-year salary. 2013: $13 million, 2014: $15 million, 2015-2016: $15 million (Voidable Years), 2017: Free Agent
Its $13M + a porition of the $7.5M "bonus"
