    Rooney rule controversy

why is there a controversy? so no minorities were hired this year for a head coach job, whats the big deal? maybe the white guys were more qualified. maybe im wrong, but i doubt these days that an owner would pass up on a qualified minority if the owner believed that person would give his team the best chance at winning. Not that it matters, but yes i am a "minority"

I think they make such a big deal about it that their angle sounds racist.

rooney rule only applies to coaches and gm's, for now atleast. So I don't think we have to interview a minority

The first guy Reggie interviewed was African-American Todd Bowles, so we didn't have to worry about it.

Honestly, it's not expansive enough. It should apply to front office positions as well. Also, I think the NFL overall should look to have a certain level of diversity. The flimsy "Rooney rule" is easy to work around and should have been named after the true pioneer in this league, Al Davis.

^ Yep. Al not only hired people who weren't usually hired for the jobs they got, but he won with them. In his day, he was a great man.

I agree but the root of the problem is the lack of minority coordinators so maybe the should apply it to coordinator searches.

That is kind of a joke.

Al was never into that kind of stuff at least from what I understand.

Yea Al is the one who hired the first Latino and first African American head coaches in NFL history. I may not have liked many of the things he did the last 10 years of his life but the man wasn't afraid to attack the race issue. When he interviewed someone it was because they had a real shot at getting the job regardless of race or color.

The rule itself has racial undertones, in my opinion of course.
