    Palmer done?

from National Football Post: *Word out of Oakland is Carson Palmer’s rib and lung injuries may be even worse than reported. In part because of the injury, some of the big dogs in Oakland are saying they don’t expect Palmer to return in 2013. That will put the Raiders squarely in the middle of what looks to be a very mediocre quarterback market.

This seems to be highly speculative and quite premature.

Has a QB, or any player/athlete for that matter, ever had to retire due to a one-time hit/injury to the lung/rib area? Ribs always heal, and a lung issue could be serious, but the lungs are protected and hard to seriously injure from a football hit. I have a hard time believing one hit to that area would be career ending. We aren't talking about the head or neck here.

    Thumbs down

That would be tough to overcome.

In that case, we ´d have to go after Alex Smith. Even bringing back Jason Campbell would look like a solid option.

I certainly hope so, but as much protection as he had, he still received three cracked ribs and a bruised lung. If it's actually more serious than previously reported,...

    Ugh.

However, if true, this would be horrible given the price paid to acquire him and that Palmer is one of the only players/positions on this team that is both above average and set for the next few years. But the one bright side is that it would force RM to acquire and develop a young QB, which this organization needs to do sooner rather than later, no matter Palmer's status.

    Ugh.
Rib injuries are painful as hell, but they aren't as serious as other injuries and generally heal well, if given time. The lung could be a bigger issue if it is serious, but "bruised" doesn't sound bad, unless it's a euphamism.

Well let's hope this is a false report. There just aren't many good options out there.

I'm in line with your thought process as well. Hard to believe that these injuries (which will be given plenty of time to heal before the 2013 start of training camp) would prevent Palmer from playing next season. Wait and see, I guess.

I am 100% in agreement with this recommendation.
