Knapp's Rape of the Raider Offense Was Foretold in 2008

All of this was foretold over four years ago. Yes, this post is by Birdman X and was posted in 2008. He is dead on. So basically Knapp has screwed us twice using the same method - his antiquated WCO.

Raiders fans -- You have NO CHANCE with Knapp

"Greetings Raiders fans. I come from a Falcons board, falconsroost dot com I and am actually an old raiders fan from way back.

I just want to say -- as someone familiar with what you are watching offensively these days, that your team really has NO CHANCE now that Greg Knapp has been elevated to offensive coordinator and play-caller. I know Walter is not a good talent, but Knapp spent 3 years in Atlanta and I know first-hand that he is about the most awful coach in football.

I will be short and leave it to you guys to observe for yourself:

    1. Knapp basically believes he is coaching in 1984 -- a time when LB's were slow and the matchup of RB vs LB meant a great advantage for the offense. But this is not 1984. LBs cover and they tackle. There isn't 15-yds of YAC available for *passes short of the first down*.

    2. Observe that most passes will be short of the first down -- as if YAC is just there for the taking like it was for Roger Craig and Ricky Watters back in the days of Walsh's niners.

    3. Observe that unless the team is being blown out by 14+ points, there will be no sense of urgency to score. There will be no 3-wide sets. No 4-wide sets.

    4. Your offense will also never see the following:
Bunch formations to confuse the defense.
Crossing routes to 'pick' defenders or create space. Expect your WRs to run the following 2 routes:
    a. Run straight then stop
    b. Run straight then keep running.

    5. Your QBs will not be allowed to audible or otherwise adjust plays. There will be no "hurry-up" offense or -- heaven forbid -- no-huddle because Knapp calls the plays. All of them. Players cannot think. Only Knapp can think.

    6. And will Knapp sit in a coaches box so he can see the defense and its tendencies from the best vantage point? No. because he must have the QB sequestured on the bench with him, talking in the QB's ear incessantly the entire game. Yes, and I do mean THE ENTIRE GAME. Think of the worst type of micro-management and annoying, overbearing "coaching" imaginable and you have Knappy.

In the end, you will see that Knapp neither knows how to score and for the most part is not even TRYING to score. He is just trying to get 4 yards (or 3 yards on 3rd and 4).

On any 3rd down of 8 or more yards, expect Knappy to concede the series. Expect a draw, or a screen. Do not expect a pass thrown for hte first down.

Most folks know Bill Walsh devised the WCO to fit the weak arm of a QB he had in Cincinnati years ago. so The Raiders have the big armed Russell. That means nothing to Knapp. He will destroy that kid's career before it ever gets started. You can see the results since Kiffen was fired and Knapp started calling the plays. Look at your point totals. Look at today's game against the Panthers -- your 6 points came from 2 great INTs by the defense. Against the Falcons, you still had the ridiculous DHall so the defense could not do anything.

With Knapp, you have no chance.

Don't flame me for saying it. I totally feel your pain and if you ever visit our site your will know how absolutely glad we all are that he is no longer weaving his "magic" in our town.

Good luck. Unfortunately, luck won't be enough until you get a new coordinator.

Believe me. I feel your pain. Your team has no chance."

Knapp doesn't even need Cialis or Vi-agra to get the job done....

Another ex. how some things never change....Dec 7th 2009. From a Jim Mora PC after a win..... "Mora also gave offensive coordinator Greg Knapp a vote of confidence, who has received some criticism of late because of Seattle’s struggle on offense."

Incredible how every fan base that this nerd (Knapp) has coach hates him. Yet we have about 3 people here that wouldn't mind having him back??

What's truely amazing is how dead on the Birdman is. He even mentions Knapp's unwillingness to sit up in the press box so that he can instead sit with the QB in between 3-and-outs and tell them stories of the legendary Bill Walsh offense.

Wow! There were a couple small things like the hurry-up that are different, but everything else is absolutely dead on. I realize that the talent isn't here, and I do support DA and Tarver, but I have been saying for a while now that Knapp is a problem with his atrocious play-calling.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me! Many fans here should be ashamed because Knapp is no better than Tom Walsh.

Thanks for your views. Goes to show the ineptitude of Allen's hire. Allen needs some sort of hand in the offense as HC, it's his responsibility. We did see the no huddle offense for a bit and that worked brilliantly, only to see Knapp cancel it.

Explains, the lack of using personnel strengths, experimentation the last few weeks.....unlike the defense where we've seen 2 down, 1 standing rusher, players in different spots. Seems DA gave Knapp full control of the offense from Day 1. Possibly Knapp asked for it, during their interview. They were both in Atlanta in 2004 and 2005. Hue Jackson actually succeeded Knapp as the OC in ATL.

Many times where Myers caught a ball a yard short of the chain.

Pretty spot on minus the hurry up & I totally disagree about the jamarcus thing. Didnt someone make a thread or post about how Palmer went to Knapp & said they should run more hurry up/no huddle? Only to be flat out told no?

I agree with everything but the sitting up in the coaches box thing. A lot of OCs don't sit up there and it doesn't seem to matter. Most of the time an offensive assistant sits up there and gives the OC the word on anything different.

This will not even be close to the first time a Raider coach has been whipping boy only to go on to another year of no play-offs. Nothing new here. I assume it feels better to make believe "hope" with a new ___________. This is just the way it has gone on here for years. Next year, it will be another guy or two. Personnel, personnel, personnel, lure in a real coach if Allen can not cut it. Where we stand right now, it is not guaranteed the "cycle" ever ends. It not the yearly whipping boy, it is the fact we can not bring in a deserving head coach to bring in his staff. The thinking is we could replace Knapp, well it is replacing him with a 2nd rate guy, that is hopefully capable.

That's all you guys want? We need a change from the top down. Name a guy who yo uwant, any. HC or an OC any.

We are not getting any of them names in 2013, in a few months my statement is fact.

It's Adam Schein who isn't a great columnist but his "schein nine" piece which ridicules the 9 worst players/coaches includes our very own Gregg Knapp.

    5) Gregg Knapp - If there was ever an offensive coordinator destined to be "one-and-done," it's Knapp. This Oakland Raiders offense was offensive, a total failure; everyone in Oakland and the NFL knows it.

Cam Newton, Tim Tebow among NFL's biggest 'Scrooges' - NFL.com

I disagree with Schein though, reading some of the comments on this site not everyone in Oakland knows it, most do though.

Birdman's post is pretty spot on analysis, and #4 above stuck out the most considering the huge drop off we've seen in DHBs and Moore's production.

Moore had an injury to start the season, in addition, I noticed a lot of the over the top bombs to Denarius this season has been dropped, he made many great acrobatic catches a year ago, this year not so many. Hopefully that had a bit to do with missing time earlier in the year.

I want Al Saunders as OC...seems as though your facts are just an opinion after all
