Reading through NFL.com and found this comment from Gill Brandt interesting.
Oakland Raiders: The Raiders are a prime example of the "bare cupboard" rule. Dennis Allen is a great coach, but the roster is pretty thin. Allen should get the Coach of the Year Award just for winning four games with that team.
It's in the better luck next year or the year after bit.

why is he a "great coach?"
based on what?
he hired the worst staff in recent memory
I've been saying for months that the 2012 Oakland Raiders are one of the least talented football teams ever assembled. The defense especially is on of the least talented to grace an NFL field. The offense is better but take away Palmer and there is a good FB, above average TE and no 1000 yard receivers or RB. Even bad teams like the Chiefs and Jags have a 1000 yard rusher or receiver (Shorts should eclipse 1000 yards this weekend).
The only change in the AFC West this year is that the Broncos really turned the corner with Manning and easily sweep their division schedule. The Chiefs, Raiders, and Chargers are bad football teams just like last year. The Raiders should be dead last but Allen has managed to get them to compete for a few extra wins.
"The massive Raider Nation is beyond doubt the sleaziest and rudest and most sinister mob of thugs and wackos ever assembled."

Thanks for the link. Good read this. Brandt is usually a pretty good analyst so there's definitely something to consider here.
Mike Mayock said something very similar on TNF when we were playing the broncos. Said he liked dennis allen alot and thinkgs fans need to have patience with him until he can get some talent assembled.
Even released players have said the Raiders are moving in right direction. The pioneer of modern talent evaluation says good things about the coaching staff.
But 3 dudes on a message board, who played High School ball know better fo' sho'. Fo' sho', i tell you
All our problems come from (Mcclain, Huff, Russell, Dmac, Bey, Gallery). That's 5 top ten picks that prety much have bombed. ZERO pro bowls, zero leaders, zero face of the franchise. Besides Bey, all those guys where projected as top 10 and not reaches. It just really sucks that we missed on all of them pretty much. QB's are a crap shoot, but position players usually don't miss their projected potential as bad as our do. And then to make it worse we give un another 1st rounder for a guy sitting on his couch retired. It was just too bad our GM was also the OWNER and we couldnt fire him. We need to go can't miss in this years draft, I say that is MANTI TE'O. Leader from day 1, MLB and heart of the D. LSU D-lineman SUCK in the pro's. Look at Dorsey, Tyson Jackson etc. We cant affor to miss. We'll probably be picking op 10 for next 2-3 years and if we pick right can get a few long term studs.
Just curious as to WHY he is a great coach?
He chose a BAD staff.
Also, Denver's Defense is doing wonders now that he is gone. Just because they stayed in the same basic D doesnt mean that JDR isnt a better job then Allen did last year.
I support Allen staying ONLY if he makes staff changes.
Before you challenge the Raider Fans to sell out the Colisseum or say the locals don't support the team Please Read Raider187's extremely informative post: http://www.raiderfans.net/forum/oakl...ance-woes.html
