Well - it appears that the writing on the wall across the bay is that there might be a QB that will need to find employment. How about commuting across the bay and play for a team that will truly appreciate you.

I just figured with Flacco's ridiculous contract demands the Ravens would let him walk and sign Smith so they don't miss a beat.

If he is behind one of the top 2 or 3 offensive lines in football, and has all day to pick a target, Alex Smith can complete short passes reasonably well. If he does not play behind an awesome offensive line, Alex Smith is a horrible quarterback, one of the worst in the NFL.

So much disdain for Alex Smith. It won't happen because the timing isn't right. We have Palmer under contract through next season and maybe even the season after that. I'm not a capologist so any feel free to correct me.

We'd also need a new coaching staff. One that could build an offense that could definitely make use of the skills Smith has. And he does have some skills. He's accurate, mobile, and he takes care of the ball. Since I feel like taking sh!t, I'll go ahead and point out that a lot of people said the same thing about Gannon. I remember my cousin calling me and asking me what I thought about the Gannon deal. I thought it was a good one but he he needed a diaper change. In the proper situation, Alex Smith could be that guy.

The 9'ers didn't miss out on the Superbowl last year because of him. They lost out because their punt returner fumbled away two punts. Smith held up his end of the deal. And he's managed to survive this long in the NFL at the toughest position in sports so he must have something going for him.

I think Harbaugh's nuts for going away from his veteran quarterback at this stage of the season. Kapernick's getting away with some stuff right now but come playoff time that guy's gonna get nuked. And in this age of the salary cap and FA how long will the 9'ers be able to hold that team together? Harbaugh's playing with people someone else drafted or signed for the most part and there's lots of teams that'll pay good money for a lot of those guys the second they get the chance. IOW, the window doesn't stay open for very long and Harbaugh's put their current Superbowl chances in the hands of a rookie quarterback.

At any rate, if we had the right coaches and if Palmer didn't have a lock on the job for two more seasons, I wouldn't mind if Smith came here.

alex smith is garbage i would much rather just stick with palmer and try to improve the offensive line and get another receiver and running back. i would rather give terrell pryor a chance before going after alex smith

I think the 9ers are jumping the gun a bit going to the kid now.....That said, Alex is a decent QB, but we know his ceiling pretty much......and the guy ain't cheap. I think we need to draft a guy if Pryor isn't gonna cut it.....
I think we go with Palmer another year unless we can get trade value.....unlikely

If we trade for him or sign him off waivers we would have to pay this salary. If he clears waivers then we could negotiate a contract with him. Fact is he has been horrible his whole career and Harbaugh tailored the offense to Alex strengths. He was decent in that offense but horrible in the Red Zone.
