Greg Pappa confirming Gruden called Al twice in 2009 to return

This was right before Hue Jackson was hired. Pappa is telling his stories of Gruden on 95.7 The Game.
Al Davis told this directly to Pappa.

Pappa thinks it's more likely to return to the Raiders. he's speaking frankly right now about it.

I hear ya SoCalR8r. I'm just relaying what Pappa is saying right now. It's all speculation anyways. No source to the ProFootballWeekly story, no headline.
Pappa was just tagging onto the story with his own thoughts. He spoke about a reunion party held at Ricky's some years ago. John was talking openly to Pappa about seriousl coming back to the Raiders. Said he spoke about it all through the night at the party.

He then added what Al told Pappa about Gruden calling him twice in 2009 about returning. When Pappa pressed Al on what he would do, Al replied, "I'm thinking about it."

papa was talking about a story al told him after this happened.
gruden wanted to come back. he called al twice. al talked to him. and then told papa that he was thinking about it.

papa did not say that any of this was taking place now nor that the team had been or is talking to gruden currently.

papa did say that with al gone it is more likely he returns. but also says that every job gruden had in very city was gruden's dream job. and every open job or job that he has been connected to

also mentions that gruden wants all the power and that is unlikely to happen with reggie less than 1 year into a 5 year deal. he doesn't think gruden will take a job unless he buys the groceries

if gruden wants all the power then f it. Sorry he was a terrible talent evaluator in TB. Worth WITH RM and then we will give you a shot if you just want to run everything then go F yourself. That attitude is why NO team in their right mind will hire him. What he is going to bring Jeff Garcia, Brien Griese out of retirement!!!

I would love him back as a coach.. Gruden had the fire and his preparation was uncanny
but as a talent evaluator, he stunk.
As a HC, and he gets to have saying in coaching decisions and player decision in the team...
but when it comes to drafting, trading and free agent acquisition, I don't trust Gruden.

I completely agree with the comments on his ability to evaluate talent. His ability to build a team is the big thing that worries me. That said maybe he has improved in that aspect during his time away from coaching.
