Story: Raiders have Gutted half their roster

Raiders have gutted half their roster (updated)

Wednesday practice update: Safety Tyvon Branch (neck injury last week) is at practice but running backs Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson (high ankle sprains) and defensive tackle Richard Seymour (hamstring) are still out. Defensive line coach Terrell Williams was back for his first practice since the passing of his son.

(Original post) With linebacker Aaron Curry being cut yesterday, the Raiders have now parted ways with 26 players who were on the 53-man roster Week 17 of last season. (Jacoby Ford makes 27 not on the roster but he is on injured reserve.)

Of the 27 players no longer on the Raiders roster from last year, 13 are no longer in the NFL (12 are elsewhere, Ford on IR, Boss on Chiefs IR).

Here is the breakdown:

On another team: (12) Satele, Murphy, Bush, Van Dyke, McCann, Groves, Barksdale, Schilens, Scott, Bruce Campbell, Jason Campbell, Wimbley

No longer in NFL: (13) Routt, Boller, Curry, Heyer, Cartwright, Boyd, Tonga, Blackstock, Houshmandzadeh, Moss, Brodine, Henderson, Sheppard\

On IR: (2) Ford (Raiders), Boss (Chiefs)

The Raiders may not fill Curry’s roster spot until later in the week.

The other half of this roster will probably be out of the NFL next year. It would be easier to list who will stay on the team next year. It's a very short list! Reggie Mac has a lot of work to do in the offseason,he has to deliver a good draft next year,no more McClain's,Russell's,Gallery's etc. Build this team back up thru the trenches.

That is truly amazing. To see such a huge percentage of roster gutted in one off season, as it needed to be. I'm already extremely curious as to what Reggie has in store for us after the season.
