Wanna see more of Schmitt on Goalline . Can be the short yardage back we need
On a few of those plays, it being preseason, I would have called them differently.
1. On the goal-line situation, I would have let "The Runaway Beer Truck" take one of the snaps right up the gut. Dude is good for short yardage or goal-line situations, only been stopped for a loss of yards 4 times in some 200+ carries in his career. Fact(posted by someone else, don't remember who but I'm sure several of us read Owen Schmidt thread)
2. Had DMC leap over the O-line. I'm sure with a good running start he gets in easily.
3. Went for it on 4th down and even failing let the "D" try to get another safety. 2 points and another chance to get a TD or FG. Possible 5 or 9 points. 1 less point wouldn't have hurt us anyways it's preseason plus more TOP keeping Cards "D" off field
4. After Goodson's first fumble had Miller back in the game at least he holds on to the ball.
5. Had different PR/KR's trying, never know one of the others might have done better. On a side note we wouldn't have had the ST miscues with Beavis and Butthead in there so probably wouldn't have had blocked punt or extra point. 7 less points for Cards we win by 4, 28-24. We also handed them 17 points, blocked punt(7), fumble(3), and INT(7,short field).
Give some examples of what you would have done differently.

3rd down on the first drive of the game I would've had Palmer sling it instead of a draw to DMac simply because DMac doesn't need to be taking any unnecessary hits. On the goal line I would've gone with true I formation with a TE on the strong side, motion McFadden out to the strong side slot position before giving the ball to the up man be it Schmitt or Reece.
Would've kept Goodson in the game though. It is pre-season, he needs to get the cobwebs out and we need to evaluate him as a backup RB.
This team is definitely going to be more conservative in terms of playcalling on offense as opposed to previous years. Given the way our D looks, I don't think it's going to be such a bad thing. Last year we needed a TD when we had the ball almost on every drive because our D couldn't stop anything. This year, I have confidence that the D is going to be able to get us the ball back. Our offense is going to be methodical. We had some very nice long drives which ate up the clock. The turnovers and special teams killed us. If we can rectify some of those, we'll look a much better team.

Darnell Dockett speaking about Darren McFadden, the BEST running back in the NFLI have great respect for that man. That (expletive) runs hard, I mean harder than anybody I've ever seen
Your trying to win the game, which is not the point of pre-season. Sure DA says he wants to win and I am sure he does, however evaluating guys like Goodson take priority, why pull him because he is fumbling the ball? Give him more chances and evaluate him completely, we now KNOW he really has some issues that can be addressed. Sending DMAC in to jump over the line is a waste of time and unnecessary risk of injury on our best player, I dont even want to see DMC play more than 1 series in any pre-season game to be honest, we all know what he can do, the ONLY reason I would have him on the field would be to better help evaluate other players by seeing how they fair with DMC in on the same play. Going for it on 4th down is a 50/50 for me, I dont care about the touchdown but giving another player a chance at goal line situation for evaluation could be crucial, we know seabass can kick so putting up field goals in pre-season to me is irrelevant, I think I agree with going for it on 4th in goal line situation but no other time. These are not even really games... they are practices and evaluations thats it. Does that mean there is nothing to worry about? No, but on the same note if our team was firing it up and looking like beast mode would that mean we were suber bowl bound? No, hence pre-season dont mean nothing.

No that doesn't necessarily mean I am trying to win. I want to see what the goal-line O can do and if they don't get in, what can the goal-line D do. As you put it FG's are pretty much a moot point, so going for it on 4th gives confidence to the O and D.
Schmidt going in the I-formation up the gut cause I think he can be the short yardage or goal-line guy. Maybe someone else going over the top instead of DMC fine, I was thinking speed to get the air and avoid injury. As for letting the D try to get another safety, that puts points on the board and gives the O more TOP keeping our D rested and the Cards D on the field.
Wearing the opposing D out is a good thing when they are too tired to make plays and keeps opposing O off the field, kind of hard for them to score points if they aren't in. Besides that was is wrong with winning, it helps build confidence, plus it makes me happy lol, not that I am too worried about winning a preseason game but that doesn't stop you from evaluating either, so either way win or lose it just feels better for us all, coaches, players, and fans, especially on the road on a short week.
Kind of makes a statement like no matter the conditions, travel, early or late start, weather, stadium, crowd noise or injuries we showed up, played our azz off like were supposed to and feel confident and good. Nothing wrong with that in my book.
