Jones already has a hammy injury and did not practice today are you sure?
I really like our 1-2-3 of McFadden, Jones, and Goodson at RB. At FB, we have Reese and I think there is a place for Schmitt on this team. With Reese being so versatile it would make sense to have someone to give him a breather once in awhile if we need a FB in there and Schmitt is a good blocker who can catch a little out of the backfield.
I think that opens up Reese as a short yardage back that could be very effective and cost us no more money.

I wouldn't mind the addition of another RB.
If you keep Schmitt as a backup FB, then Reese could be a legit 4th HB. Im not against adding depth, but I don't think we need to add a guy that will cost more than the minimum, or close to it like Benson would.

I'd definitely pick up Benson for a year to make sure Jones or Goodson can show they are worthy.
If Goodson cant show much in real games and Jones gets hurt again or also doesnt show much in real games we are at risk.
I think there is a good chance McFadden gets hurt at some point during the season. Other guys haven't proven shlt yet.
We were comfortable with Bush because he had proven him self since his first year of playing. Jones wasnt ready last season
lets hope he progresses this year.
IMO I don't think that Jones Currently is ready to be a backup in the NFL in terms of being reliable, same goes for Goodson. I really think we're making a mistake if we don't grab benson for $1-1.5 mil. If he's there for that price we should be snagging him up.
For me personally, when you look at the roster all at once, RB looks a little light.

I really like what Reggie has done in Oakland thus far. He really seems to have an idea of how to build a successful football team. However, I don't quite understand this refusal to sign Cedric Benson to a contract. Benson wants to be here, he adds some depth to a position that desperately needs it and we have the cash to sign him. WTF am I missing?
I really like Reese, but he is NOT a bruiser, he is not a short yardage back.
He is more of a finesse player.
His best plays have been him coming out of the backfield and catching balls.
Benson makes sense any way you look at it: Skill set, age, salary.
Yea, I still think Benson would be a good pickup with both DMC and Jones having injury issues thus far. It's not a do or die pick up but it would be good insurance IMO.
Well McFadden has never played a full season...
Jones had an hamstring problem last year, and tweaked it already.
Goodson missed the season last year because of a hammy and also tweaked it in the beginning of TC.
Doesn't look too good.
If someone can be a short yardage guy its either McFadden or Schmitt.... The 1st we dont want to and the 2nd we dont know. Reece is not that guy at all. I think we will learn a lot from the preseason games, the coaching staff and GM as well.
