Really? Losing key players on offense - including getting a QB literally off the couch was no excuse? How many teams could lose both their starting QB and RB - get a completely new QB mid-season - and still finish in the top half of the league on offense?

It's the kind of offense they want to have.
Reggie and Dennis have a vision for what they want and what they think will win games.
That may mean a less explosive offense, less risk taking and trick plays, in favor of a moving the chains and efficiency.
I guess we'll see soon enough, but Knapp was brought in because he was what they wanted, they are putting an overall system in place to win games with that vision.

Pretty hard to imagine Hue Jackson being a team player with the new GM, the guy wanted to run the show, so he pretty much had to move on, good offensive mind or not.
This is indeed a good question (how Hue wold have worked with RM) and the strongest argument for change - however, given what Jackson did last season with those injuries to key players, in my view, he earned at least one more season (with a new DC) to see what he does.

I'm not so sure. I mean, that's what ended up happening (him running the show) but I see it as more him trying to fill an impossible void left by the passing of Al Davis. Did he handle it correctly? In retrospect, probably not. But I think he wanted to win ****ing football games and in that pursuit he overstepped and mishandled the situation. Sure, it is easy to criticize the guy from the peanut gallery, but he had a goddamned impossible situation on his hands and he dealt with it the best he knew how as a first time HC saddled with Chucky the clown and a rapidly deteriorating roster.

The Bengals on Feb. 17 of this year signed Hue Jackson to an assistant coach position. Head coach of the Oakland Raiders in 2011 and a Bengals assistant from 2004-06, Jackson is slated to assist primarily in the areas of special teams and defensive backs, working closely with DBs coach Mark Carrier and special teams coach Darrin Simmons.

Agreed - it almost seems as if Davis hired CB simply as a stop gap until next season, then likely would have went for someone like Moss as DC. Unfortunately, he passed away and the new regime would rather throw out the proverbial baby with the bath water. It would have been interesting to see what Jackson could have done with an off season and some time to heal, & with a new DC.

yep, occasionally I feel the need to counter just a little of the senseless Hue hate I see here. Dude gets ridiculed and scorned on a damn near daily basis despite not doing a bad job given the circumstances. I'm not pining away for him or anything, and I'm cool with DA and the direction RM is taking us, but damn you'd think we went 2-14 or something the way people pile everything wrong with the franchise on his doorstep.

I didn't really dislike Hue, he did some good things, his personality started to get out of hand though, might have been hard for him to step back a notch if he had been brought back.
He was put in a bad spot, the defense did bring the team down, but him and Reggie don't seem cut from the same cloth.

And im liking the soundbites im hearing from the players, theres some real changes going on this year, Tommy Kelly made it sound like training camp is night and day from last year, no non sense this year, get down to business.
Sounds like what this team needs, and im not sure Hue would be the guy to do that.

Well I for one would of loved to keep Hue as OC but not head coach. I know that doesnt usually happen but its business and it could work. I still would want DA as our new head coach but think with Hue solely focused on coordinating the offense it would be a great situation. Im sure he'd much rather be our OC then QB coach this year.

I'm trying to stay positive right now. Football season is back. I love it. But come on guys, Gregory Knapp is a HORRIBLE playcaller. He didn't get the nickname "take a Knapp" for nothing... Saying we're running Houston's offense isn't saying much. Both teams run a WCO.
We want to win. The Raider fans deserve it. The Raider players deserve it, even my organization deserves it. You have to win and you have to win with a vision for the Super Bowl. That's our passion here. - Al Davis

That I would have been ok with (except it never could have worked with having been the HC last year). Hue was much better as an OC than a HC. With someone else running the show and Hue as OC I think things would have been better. But as an HC I was never a fan.

That said I do feel our offense will be better (yes I said better) with Knapp as the OC. I think the new offense fits our personnel better and I do like him better as a play caller. Hue hurt us with his agressiveness as much as he helped us. We were always big play or nothing with Hue. I think we will see more actual drives with Knapp and I think our redzone O will be better.

And more than anything I LOVE what I hear and read about DA. I think he is the kind of coach the players will respond to and we will see a big overall improvement this year in overall team play.

Several offense styles can work. What matters is good execution, especially offensive line play.
