This has been talked about multiple times on here, so I won't get into specific details (look up the thread if you care).

Basically, Mitchell is used out of position. He is a strong safety. He's not a LB, nor a FS. Branch emerged as our starting strong safety and that left Mitchell on the outside looking in. He got his most run, and best minutes, when used as a LB in the Wolverine package. I firmly believe if Mitchell was used as a strong safety on this team, or any other team, he would do well. I won't say he's a pro bowler or anything like that yet, but I will say he would be quite productive if stuck in his natural position.

In all honesty, I wouldn't have had a problem if we let Branch go (whom I feel is quite over rated on this board) and let Mitchell take the starting position. With Coach Allen now, I think Mitchell could do well there. We let Branch go, save over ~6 million and then if Mitchell works out, we pay him a fraction of that next season and if he doesn't, we find one in the draft.

Maybe he does well in a new system, maybe not. In three years he had one reasonably good one and two sort of crappy ones. This is his contract year. The guy should STFU and play.

He's been on the team for awhile now and he makes friends. He's still a young guy... what, around 24 or so? He makes friends with people on the team and they get traded. He's not allowed to express displeasure with team decisions? I don't see anything wrong with what he said. He doesn't bash the front office, team, or any player in general. In fact, we don't even know if he's pissed off about Murphy being traded as he doesn't even reference it.

Although, I haven't been following the threads on here that closely as of late, so if there was another tweet or something, then I probably missed it. I did a quick skim of his twitter and didn't see anything to warrant the type of reaction that is being thrown around here, though.

sounds nice but i dont think there are any "good" RT sitting on the FA market right before training camp..at least not as a good as barnes who IMO is good enough for right now..if were going to make any signings it will be within the next few days before camp starts..barring any camp injuries of course..

You may well be right about the current availability of Tackles. but as for Barnes, I wouldn't be too surprised if one of our warm bodies in pre-season beat him out for the starting RT spot, and that ain't saying much

Cap issues have forced putting the priority of RT to the back burner.......That and maybe Reggie thought he had a chance at signing Michael Bush, leaving us where we are.

Mitchell is making 965K this year. Maybe he can prove himself. If he does not step up we lose 400K.

More on the trade conditions... sounds like at best we'll get a 7. Was hoping it was a 7 moving up to a 6 on certain conditions.

Getting something in a trade for a player that was going to be at most 5th WR on our team and at worst cut. He was on in the last year of his contract and seems Reggie didn't see him as part of the future - as far as people we would owe money or real playing time.

This will make for an interesting situation for camp as to who wins the 5th and 6th roster spots.

Wish Murphy luck in Carolina and could easily see him cracking their starting line up if he stays healthy. Hope he doesn't hurt us when we play there in December though...

Mitchell has the right to be upset; as long as his lockerroom attitude remains positive and he plays hard/well. Conversely, if Mitchell sulks and is attricious, I expect him to suffer the same fate as Murphy. I expect that fate for anyone not performing though, scholarship program is over.

Last night I heard an interview w/ Paul Guitierez, he said that the Murphy trade was due to his drop on the depth chart. Then he talked about players being upset by the way Campbell was handled by the Raiders last season. Didn't really say that he had evidence or had heard anything directly, but he said that Murphy being gone will be good for the Raiders locker room (and Murphy). He also mentioned that Jacoby Ford was another player who was upset last season, another guy that could be shopped around by the Raiders, but he is still around because the Raiders don't have anyone else to return kicks...He didn't mention Mitchell at all. Said that it would be harder for Ford to be a disruption now that Murphy is gone.

On the positive side, he said that McFadden and Palmer together on the field, and Palmer having a full offseason with the team, could make the Raider offense elite. The Raiders are the most intriging team. Plus with Murphy leaving we now have about more cap space, around 6mill. He said that Benson is a good fit but thinks the Raiders will probably use the money on MLB like Henderson, or the MLB from the Colts.

Attitude on this team has sucked bad for a long time. Not everyone, but for sure some. If you somehow got a job that paid you $1 million a year and very possibly no one else in the world would give you a job remotely like it, would you publicly state "I'm pissed" at a decision the GM made? I hope Mitchell plays like a 2nd round draft pick this year. If he doesn't, this very possibly could be his last year in the NFL.
