I agree with Paul...until I actually see the D not give up games I see us going 6-10 or 7-9.
Thanks for posting!
This clip was aired last night (7/17/12). Raider's insider Paul Gutierrez talks about the new Raider direction, the cap, Cerick Benson etc.
I agree with Paul...until I actually see the D not give up games I see us going 6-10 or 7-9.

Interviewer: “What makes us think they can get to 6-10?”
PG: “Look at the schedule. It’s a brutal, tough schedule.”
HA!!!
Sorry, but we BETTER get past 6-10 and 9-7 or 10-6 would be more like it if not MORE!!!
Last years schedule was WORSE!!!
Last year we had a NEW head coach and a new DC and supposedly nobody was on the same page.
This year we have a NEW head coach and a new DC that is in FACT on the same page as the GM.
Last year we had injuries up the wazoo.
This year we will have to wait and see.
Last year we where the MOST penalized team in the HISTORY of football.
This year with all the new pieces in place we better NOT be the most penalized team in the history of football.
Last year we had a QB come off the COUCH, not the bench. Last year this QB had not gone through TC or even SEEN our playbook until mid season!!!
This year that same QB has ALREADY gone through OTA’s and mini camps and will in FACT be in TC some 10 days from now not to mention all of preseason.
Last year our defense was abominable.
This year our defense will NOT be anywhere as predictable and in fact will be “multiple” and our new HC was brought into fix our D. Our defense SHOULD be better then last year.
Last year our owner passed away at the beginning of the season. TALK ABOUT A DISTRACTION!!!
This year year we start anew with a GM that was a product of a SB championship team and supposedly will “bring us into the modern era of football”.
Last year with everything that went so horribly wrong (Al Davis passing away) or was so horribly bad (defense, penalties, new QB coming off the COUCH), we still managed to go 8-8!!!
This year? I fully expect us to top 8-8 by at least a game if not more!
NO EXCUSES!
Paul is a very reasonable guy. I think 6-10 may be a wee bit short of where we'll finish but I can understand where he's coming from. And his commentary on the psychology of certain fans was spot on.
6-10? Paul, you wanna fight??!!?!?!?!
I wonder what Paul said last year after we lost Zach, Nnam, and Robert
Yea but my thinking is that no one else in the division is much better than we are (if at all) and lookin at the schedules and when and where all of the AFC teams play their tough games I can't help but think we are in much better shape to make a run. I think Den and SD are screwed all together with their schedules and in SDs case I think they have lost more than they gained in FA and draft.
KC IMO is better off than the other two teams but I don't think Cassel is going to get it done.
I get what he is saying about our schedule but then go and look at the our division rivals schedules and tell me we don't have a pretty good shot.
I've put up with tons of questionable personel moves over a course of 20+ years, including plenty of moves that didn't even look good on paper from the start.......Moves that we're based on intuition/hunches/whims as much or more so than practical research. That said, I have room for forgiveness if Reggie has bumps in the road and makes mistakes..... If we go 6-10, I won't be 2nd guessing the Hue Jackson firing.. IMO Hue failed and was rightfully fired... Reggie may need to adjust personel in coaching and players......He had a lot to do in the 1st year with somewhat limited resources...He was not left a payed off Lamborgini to drive, more like an old Honda Accord with a couple years payments left on it......(BTW An Accord is a pretty damn good car)
He is just doing his fair part in keeping us under the radar. He knows that the rest of the NFL's teams fans are in for a BIG shock. Gutierrez knows what's up.
Somebody fire Paul g. He's no raider insider he's a Raider hater. 6-10 your out your mind paul.
I also think 6-10. It has a lot to do with the total reconstruction of the org, and the schedule. The schedule is brutal. I agree with everything he said in the video. I won't be upset with a 6-10 record as long as the team competes every week for 60 minutes a game.
Uh... guys?
NOT saying Paul is wrong!!! We could go 6-10.
However, IMHO, unless something goes horribly wrong there is NO excuse for us going 6-10!
NONE!!!
Please read my post #3 in this very thread as to why.
I'm 52. In all my years of watching Raider football there is not ONE season I can remember that was so crazy, so complicated, so twisted, so involved, so impeded, so tangled and so sad as our 2011 season.
And through all that, we managed to go 8-8 with a BRUTAL schedule.
Sorry, the new regime gets a ZERO pass from this Raider fan.
Now, if they where inheriting a team that was 2-14 and was pathetic on both sides of the ball with absolutely nothing to build on that's a different story. But such is NOT the case.
Do or do not. There is NO EXCUSES.
traditionally a team that has this much change in the organization during the offseason doesn't fair so well in the following season. There are the exceptions like SF and that is about where I compare our team to difference being obviously we've changed more about the organization then they did, however we have the players we need to succeed, really good players actually and like i've told people for the longest the NFL better look out once the Raiders get a competent GM to point these players in the right direction! So while 6-10 may be the norm in the NFL for a situation such as ours i tend to think we're the exception..
I know all the BSPN analysts says they will only win 5 or 6 games but cmon Paul! This team is greatly improved over last years team and the schedule is a little easier this year. I see them winning 9 or 10 games and a playoff spot.
I like the way your looking at it and I agree with most of what you said. Paul didn't say anything that that was out of whack he was just speaking cautiously. Thst how a lot of fan are looking at Raider football these days. I know I have learned that we can win the games we are picked to lose and lose the games we should win, making it hard to really predict our games.
Looking back to the last two seasons we went 8-8 and 8-8. Both seasons could of easily went 6-10 or 10-6 with a play here or a play there. I can totally see why Paul is saying we could go 6=10.
