I'm starting to think the Raiders may be out of the running for Benson. He wants more than the vet minimum, and now Seattle may be in need of a back with a possible long term suspension coming to Marshawn Lynch.

I would like Benson because he is a big back, can be used in short yardage, and is excellent insurance. I wouldn't be mad at a contract that was incentive laden. If DMC goes down for an extended amount of time he gets paid a bonus if he takes over as starter. If he does not meet a certain % of carries he does not get a bonus.
That would be worth it to me, because I rather find out that we don't need him than to not sign him and see we really did like somebody has said before. Reggie hopefully can work something out, because he has shown consistency and a damn good chance could be the #1 back for over half the season. An injury or a suspension is going to land him on a squad, he doesn't need to worry about finding a job I don't think. If a playoff team needs a RB he will probably be #1 on most teams list. Most vets want to be on a playoff team with a chance to win a ring. His situation is not that bleak. We need one more back either way, and I want it to be a vet, just in case our back-ups can't get it done as a starter.
If we can sign Benson on the cheap, great. Otherwise, from what I've heard, Goodson is big, fast and strong. Could be what we wanted Bush to be.
Having said that, knowing the Raiders luck, if we let him go to another team he will have a record-breaking year.
If it's just us and the Packers then no team is going to overpay for his services and he needs to come to grips with his market value. Maybe his agent needs to sit him down and wake him up to the reality of 30 year-old running backs in the NFL.
Sorry but the cry baby crocodile tears is just too much. Give me Grant or I'm good with what we got. If we do get Benson make sure its not a penny more than the Vet min.
I heard the interview last night and that's exactly what I was thinking. It seems like Benson's agent has really screwed him. So much so that Gannon told Benson to forget his agent and start calling up teams himself.
After hearing the interview, I'd like to see the guy sign with us. He wants to play and he feels like he has something to prove. I think it's weird that a guy with his production couldn't manage to get signed to some team for better money, but he can blame his agent for that fiasco. Now he just needs to get in a Raider uniform, produce, and hope that next year brings a better opportunity for him.
P.S. Props to Raider Ran for coming up with a thread title so horrible that it's awesome
I hope he lands with the Raiders. He is naive to expect more than a one year deal and more than 1 mil per year before incentives. I do wish him the best.
I'd give him 1 million with a possibility for 1.5 with touchdown incentives

what it really boils down to is DEMAND, there is no demand for benson in his current situation so therefore he has very little say in the salary department. Saying that getting him at $1 mil is a steal is not at all what the reality is. If it was a steal there would be a demand for him, RM is no dummy and he knows this. If and when we do sign Benson it will be fair market value whether it's for vet minimum or $1mil, RM is not going to overpay market value.
