What about the weaknesses of the Knapp Offense..

what does the nation think some weaknesses are with our new OC offense..

considering our players and our strengths ..what do you all see that could be a problem...

    His play calling.

If he isn't competent, I hope Saunders can step in and replace him.

Weakness of Knapp's offense and how I think our players fit below.
    • QB play - Knapp's offense requires a QB who is accurate and who can anticipate where the WRs will be. I think Palmer will be fine as he is very good at that compared to Russell who was our QB when Knapp was last here.
    • WR play -His offense requires WRs who can run good routes and get YAC. Higgins was good for YAC but horrible a route running, Porter was Porter when he wanted to be he was good but he didn't want it much. Curry had lost all of his explosion by 2007 so we had NO WRs. We have several players at WR now who have the potential to rack up serious YAC in Moore, DHB & Ford.
    • Oline play - We had Kuame Harris (thanks Cable) starting at LT. We are arguably better at every single OLine position now then we were then and have several players who should play at or near pro bowl level this year.

Looking at the offensive roster we had last time Knapp was here, it is no surprise he was not successful I expect him to do fine given all of the talent.
The better question is ‘what are the reasons I wouldn’t take this job.’ I mean, I’ll be here…yall won’t eat dinner tonight with all the reasons I have to take this job. Guys, this is where I came from. I’m back home now. I’m back home. - Reggie McKenzie

i see..well not really thinking play calling wise..

i guess with the set up or scheme ..what is a weakness...

    example..

carson rolling out..eh not sure i am confident he can tuck and run ..if he has to..

or with the blocking schemes ..did texans have a hard time protecting a certain side.

I doubt they will expect Palmer to take off and run on a roll out. If we are running a similar offense to what Hou runs then how much did Schaub run? He rolled out quite a bit but I dont think he takes off past the LOS very often at all. If they design the plays where Palmer rolls out and either finds the open rec or throws it away then Palmer will have no issues (with the roll outs). I highly doubt Knapp is expecting Palmer to play like M. Vick or even Jeff Garcia. You dont get to be a coach in the NFL for as long as Knapp has been if you dont know how to play to your players strengths. So my only question is how long it takes Knapp and the rest of the new coaching staff to get a handle on our players strengths and take advantage of them.

I think our offensive line will be our strongest part when it comes to offense which it hasn't been for years. I'm old fashion when it comes to that wars are won upfront in the trenches

The O-Line should have a dominate season, on both setting up running lanes and protecting the QB.

Knapp has been around the league for a while and worked with some good coaches, he should know whats he's doing.
Recently working under Kubiac and doing a good job with their QBs, and probably picking up a few things.

From the comments made by Palmer and others we will be doing something similar to what the Texans run.
ZBS running game, complemented by an efficient passing game, but im sure we will mold some things to what players we have here as well.

All in all its a pretty good fit IMO, Dmac is a star running back, the Texans have A. Foster as their big guy.
Matt Schaub and Palmer are almost the exact same size, and neither is known for running with the ball, they make plays with their arms.
We don't have an Andre Johnson, but we have a more explosive overall group at WR, and maybe Criner can be a poor mans Johnson to start out with.

I don't know how i feel about picking a weakness, but his style will probably play better if we don't get too for behind in points.

Im looking for a better all around team that plays defense, ST and offense and tries to stay away from gunslinger shootout type games.

guess im one of those its not a problem its a challenge kind of guys...

i have no doubt hes a good coach and knows his stuff..im just looking for some weak points to expect..i can youtube all the great HIGHlights of his o all day...but low lights..not so much..

pointing out weaknesses imo can also answer personel moves as well..why we got this guy why we move this person here..etc.

really i guess im bored and trying to prepare to be involved in our season as much as i can..

I really like the McKenzie, Allen, and to a lesser extent Tarver hires. I don't ilke the Knapp hire. Last time around, throwing underneath and letting the receiver run for YAC included throwing for 3 on 3rd and 5 and hoping the receiver would pick up the extra 2.

I think Knapp can work out this time, but to do so, McFadden has to play very well and Palmer has to cut out the mistakes. I don't think we score as many points as last year.
