Can Palmer do what Hostetler did for raiders in 1st full season

On the heels of Todd Marinovich busting out AL turned to a quality verteran, and proven winner who stabilized the raiders, is carson capable, did Hostetler have more parts around him in his first season with the silver and black, lets see

I think Palmer can do better. While I feel we lack a true vet presence at WR, I have very few worries about our offense. I worry much more about our defense and our very green coaching staff. There's an awful lot of youth around here. Hopefully they gel and build some confidence in each other.

Thanks naph for the vid , that brought back some good memories, I forgot how good that season was. I think Palmer could be better than Hostetler potentialy speaking but will he live up to that potential is the question, we'll see, my hopes are I high that he will.

It's a shame we have to aim so low.

    I agree!
The better question is ‘what are the reasons I wouldn’t take this job.’ I mean, I’ll be here…yall won’t eat dinner tonight with all the reasons I have to take this job. Guys, this is where I came from. I’m back home now. I’m back home. - Reggie McKenzie

good stuff! thanks! i had such high hopes for those shell teams in the 90's. Looking back on it that season seems a little more special beating the broncos 3 times in one season and in back to back games. i was meh about hoss coming to the raiders but he was a decent QB who knew how to win. he certainly was a step up from what we were putting out there since plunkett. Can only dream what the early 90's would be like if the elway trade had gone through.

I think that's what Jason said when he realized he had no choice but to take a back up role in Chicago. lol.

Before you raise Hoss to high as memory fades, he had a record of 2 -19 when trailing going into the 4th quarter.

Two words - Greg Knapp. The team's success will not ride on Palmer as much as it will ride on Knapp. Not to mention that Palmer is likely to get injured under Knapp.

Let's hope Palmer doesn't have to take the punishment Hostetler did. I remember Hostetler being solid but the first thing that comes to mind is the large number of brutal hits he took. That'll probably take a decade off his life. Seven step drop, wait, wait, wait, and BAM!!!

But Palmer won't take that kind of abuse because Knapp's system is designed to get the ball out of the hands of the qb quickly. I still don't see Palmer being a good, mobile rollout quarterback but we'll see.

Hoss played in a dinosaur system behind terrible protection.......Had things been different he would be remembered as great......He was smart, an outstanding athlete and had a damn good arm....He also won a superbowl when he played for a team that had it's sh!t together......I have immense respect for the man...

I wish Carson was the athlete Hoss was....

Thanks for the video. I almost forgot how good he was. And the parts where it shows Vince Evans playing makes me wonder why he didn't play more.

Yeah, first thing that leaps to mind when I think of Hoss is the amount of punishment the guy took. If Palmer can be as good as Hoss but behind a much better line, I think we'll be in good shape.

Sometimes I still expect to see Vince Evans come off the sidelines whenever our starter goes down.
